I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

First time for new things in life

I am so glad I just took this vacation to Florida with my sister and friend. No, it was not a big wild, fun-filled, completely relaxing time. There was some uneasiness, some panic, some tears, as I got used to not being with my husband and kids on vacation, but I am glad I did it because now I know I can. It was a step. Every time I do something different for the first time, I know I am one step closer to living a new life. Traveling has always been one of the biggest joys of my life, and I knew that I had to find someone to go with, and I did. We had some laughs, we enjoyed the sun, and came back still friends. Plus, it was not only good for me, but for my sister and friend as well, who kind of need a "planner" like me to get them out of their comfort zones! I know I had to mourn the loss of the familiar vacations, but there are new adventures to come.

BTW, for those who've known I'm counting my NC days, I had to start over last night.... But I'll get there. Starting my counseling tonight and I really can't wait.

Yes....each time you put youself out there and accomplish a goal, you are that much closer to healing.

If you had asked me a year and half ago if I could ever even go out to dinner by myself, I would have laughed. Now I do it all the time. I even went to a festival alone this past weekend....AND enjoyed it!!!

I'm so glad you had a great time and you sister and friend did too. Yes, steps...some big some small but all are going forward. (((HUGS)))

I have friends I met in my meetup groups who love travel and use travel groups geared toward singles who love to travel and don't have someone to travel with.

Good for you, I still find this one of the hard things to do.

But each time I do something along, like you said I realize I can do it.

Two months after showing the now-X the door, I took a long-desired trip out to Santa Cruz, CA to visit an old friend. He and his wife were absolutely the BEST MEDICINE for me at the time; gave me a warm welcome and pampered me to the point of spoiled in those 7 days. I say good for you and DO MORE! Learning to be gentle and to really CARE FOR OURSELVES is just part of this Journey.

As to the N.C. -- get back on the wagon, my dear, and put those stars on the calendar for every day you go without contact. I guarantee the longer you go, the stronger you will feel! Big hugs xoxo

I took a 10 day holiday at the coast after my divorce and settlement was over. Went whale-watching and met up with old friends. I came home a new woman, put one foot over the threshold and decided it was time to buy my own house! I've taken several short holidays since then and enjoyed the break each time. I go again at the end of June and can't wait. There's something about getting right away from where you live....
