Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group

I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

Leaving for the Keys tomorrow and packing tonight. First time in 17 years haven't been with stbx. I'll be with my boys, their friends, and my good friend, but boy is my heart heavy and it feels like a boulder on my chest.

Too bad we have a tropical depression that should cover us in rain the whole weekend. But we have puzzles and games, and I've always said bad weather in the Keys is better than good weather at home. We'll have fun, I know.

Thanks everyone. I sometimes feel like I take more than I give here, but I'm not sure what I have to offer at this point.

While it may be different, it is a blessing to have this time with your boys & friends. Focus on creating new memories!! Enjoy!

Have a lot of fun!
I just got back from SW Fl and it was hotter than hell!
If you stay at a resort they will have inside activities planed for bad weather , try to do those :)

Decide that you're going to enjoy yourself and make every moment count. Put your stbx away in his box and let yourself be free.

All the firsts are hard. You'll get through this one.

If your marriage was like mine, you'll find that being able to let yourself go and truly enjoy yourself because he's not there to bring you down, will be a wonderful relief.

Hugs Kelly...try to enjoy this time with your kids. I know it wont be the same for you without the ex...all those memories and such but you will be amazed at how...when given no choice...how we start looking for the good and find it. I'm sure he has rocks in his head for making the choices he has...Big Hugs....Kathy

Have a great time. The last time I went to the Key's my X got drunk - wanted peel and eat shrimp and then got pissed at me and left me standing in the middle of the street when I suggested a restaurant tha might have what he wanted.

I had to get back to my hotel at the other end of town all by myself.

Needless to say, I won't miss that kind of abuse. But I'd like to go to the Keys again!

Kelly-I know it is hard sometimes-I'm struggling with all the memories of last summer when we had 'reconnected' and were working things out.

I agree with what everyone is saying and understand your feelings. I went to Italy in April to visit my daughter who was studying abroad. Besides it being the first time traveling without the STBX, it was my first time overseas and the first time traveling completely alone. There were times when it was tough, but I refused to think of him while I was there. Looking back on it now, it was the best thing I ever did in my life. Enjoy and have a blast with your kids.
