Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

I know what you mean. It's been 7 years and I also miss touch, but these days I wouldn't want his touch from the end of a barge pole. I know he is not good for me now. Get hugs from anywhere you can. Don't be afraid to ask your sister and your new best friend. (They also need hugs sometimes. Everyone needs touch.) Of course you're going to miss being touched in a loving way. There'd be something wrong if you didn't.
I know you're probably not in a position to get a furry pet at the moment, but can you visit someone who has one? Walk the neighbour's dog? Talk to your sister's goldfish. Get your own goldfish? My daughter used to have a goldfish who came to the side of the tank looking for her to talk to him.
The rollercoaster thing is a very normal part of this journey, and it can be as quick as that. Up one minute, down the next. The main thing is that you go with the flow, let yourself feel the feelings as they come up, because allowing them will gradually get rid of the hurting ones, and will build up your body's memories of the good ones.
It's good that you can see that there was some co-dependence. Any chance you could see a therapist for a while? Maybe there's one at the uni?
Congratulations on being rehired at the uni, and I'm sure not everyone has their fees pad on their tuition? Well done, PU!!
I hope you're on the upswing again soon.

Remember, he doesn't care.... You must care for yourself.
God bless... Timeman
I am seeing a therapist but I don't think she is helping. I mean who can help. Today is so bad. I didn't care. I just kept openly weeping on the train. I have to go teach just now and I am so scared that somehow I will break into tears before my class.
I am TERRIFIED of tomorrow. I will see him again. This whole weekend I keep thinking that out of all of the bad things he did (the affair, the abandonment, the cruel words) the thing that hurts the most is that he doesn't care what happens to me; doesn't care if I am dead or alive. People get divorced; they fall out of love. They get new partners but we had 22 years. I saw him through his father's death. We were each other's first love. He doesn't have to be in love with me but TO NOT CARE IF I AM OK is the worst part. There are people who move on with their lives but still care for the person they left. His mother had an affair with a married man for 10 years. It's over but he still calls her to see how she is doing. I had 22 years with this man, is it too much to ask that he would care if I dead or alive? To care if I am okay? It's not only that he is not in love with me but he does not even love me? Am I so bad? what did I do that he has washed his hands of me? That he wants nothing to do with me? it's like I have ceased to exist. My fate in God is now really bad. What God makes me suffer this way? I feel God has chosen him. Given him a glimpse of a new life and has just left me alone. What was my crime? I loved him unconditionally? Is it really that bad to not have a full time job? Is it really that bad to become depressed? To not drive? I drive now. I mean how do you utterly stop loving someone in such a contemptuous fashion? I feel like I cannot go on. I am so lost. It's 6 months in but I am no better. I am literally falling apart. I fear this will be my condition forever. Why? What have I done to suffer this fate? I am terrified about tomorrow.
I would turn this around: God has chosen to set you free at this time so you can make a new life for yourself. God is giving you the chance to find the partner you truly deserve. Never feel that your life with stbx was wasted. I'm sure you have learned many things that you can use in your new life. If you trust in time you will have that life you want. I have always said when I have a real need I am blessed with opportunities to work to fill that need. I have had some really great things come into my life. Great for me anyway. After besting the ex three times in court I'm so very lucky he wishes I were dead. It means he will never bother me again. See how you can change your thinking from woe is me to how lucky you may be after all of this is over? You will do that in time. We all have our own time frame for healing. Find yourself a new therapist if you feel that one isn't helping you.
Got to say, I loved hearing the strength, anger, and self awareness happening in your first post here, and I get how quickly and low it can get within minutes. It's OK, keep feeling it, keep working on it, keep posting.
But.... use the strength, anger and self awareness to act on. Save the grieving for your therapist and here, not in front of your ex, and not in front of your family if it's not safe. You can do this. Like you did for your class, you stand up straight, take care of you, and when it's safe, go ahead and cry. So glad your class went well, and I'll be thinking of you at your meeting tomorrow.
