Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

If you keep your FB settings private, there is no reason to fear the court wanting to look at it. It's the dummies who put it all in the open and do stupid stuff that have to worry.
As to worrying about your FB postings being subpoenaed...It is the rare case where computer files or social media postings are investigated in divorce cases. The Rule of Thumb is don't post anything that's at all questionable!
I also use FB to sell items I no longer want for extra cash. gotta love that!
During my divorce my lawyer cautioned me not to post anything that could be used against me in the divorce, that was easy since I dont put my personal information out there anyway! But no one cautioned my ex and i was able to take a screen shot of his page i got to by using a friend of ours in common account about him doing side work and it was handy in the financial part of the divorce!
I keep things on FB neutral and positive, for the most part.
Unfortunately I had a FB account before I got divorced so I had FB friends from my neighborhood and practically all of my in-laws. You have to be careful of your settings or you will see things you can't unsee. I learned that the hard way. You can have people as friends and not follow them and you can also restrict them. I restrict all my ex-in-laws and ex neighborhood friends because I don't want them telling my ex about my life. They only see posts that I make public which are usually only funny or interesting things I post. I also don't "follow" any of those people so if they feel the need to post pics of my ex and schmoopie I don't see them.
Ex doesn't have an account and I block schmoopie so I never see either one of them. I guess the short answer is I think it's Ok but you need to be careful.

That said, I have one good friend who posts so frequently and so many silly things, that I've had to hide her posts so I don't see them anymore! There are lessons to be learned in what is appropriate, for kids AND adults i.e. what is too personal or needy (over posting about one's personal life is a cry for help imho!) etc.
I look at electronic media personal posts of ANY kind as having ZERO privacy ultimately. I think this is just a safe way to operate. Nothing I have ever posted or will post can ever come back to haunt me this way! I never sexualize content or post anything that could be construed as overtly hurtful or rude. That includes my phone texts even!
If I had a great number of friends or family members on fb who were connected to the ex, that would definitely be a problem I'd have to tackle. But I don't.
Goldengirl, you have bigger problems than fb right now! Don't worry about it. If it provides you entertainment value, and you're careful not to be too personal, than just enjoy it!
