Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

I do feel bad for your daughter though. Is she old enough to say she doesn't want to meet the new gf?
Again, SAY NOTHING. DO NOTHING. Continue to set a good example for your daughter and only answer questions as asked, very simply. One of my favorites has always been "This is life I would not have chosen for you, but it's your life."
While I am not suggesting that you live like a Nun (if you are Catholic, I hope that doesn't offend you, but I think you get my drift) NOT DATING until after your divorce is final (I forget what stage you are in) is ESSENTIAL. Don't want to raise anyone's eyebrows....nor do you want to fall into a rebound relationship. Use this time to get in better touch with who you really are and what you really need and want to make the rest of your life, the BEST of your LIFE!
When I first started dating again, I knew that women my age were most likely to have children. I also knew what ages those children were most likely to be. I guess the technical term for children is baggage.
The lady I am dating has three daughters - 30, 21, 18. I think they are absolutely wonderful. They were all supportive of their mother when she talked to them about wanting to date. Of course, they had to "accept"w whomever she went out with. And heck, I feel pretty darn good that they all like me.
I just don't buy into the "I have kids so I cannot date" syndrome. Children want their parents to be happy. Just be honest and upfront with them. Don't hide what you do. If you are hiding it, it must be because there is shame and it is being done for the wrong reason.
Duh, I've had a rough day.
I also meant to mention that the woman I am dating is a widow. Even though there are differences in dating a widow/widower versus a divorcee, most of the principles still apply. :-)
