Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Well, it's been almost a week and I have finally rejoined the world after our storms (last Friday afternoon). I have friends (a lot) who still don't have electricity. I finally got my WiFi back! I actually got electricity back after 24 hours. I was extremely fortunate.
In the state of emergency, I actually had a few thoughts that were specific to divorce and losing my parents. I felt a little alone. I have become accustomed to not having a spouse who checks on me in emergencies but I have not come to grips with not having either parent to call and be concerned. My son, DIL and grandson were with me so I was responsible for them and I felt a little panicky, trying to figure out (by myself) what to do next. When the electricity went off, there were no gas stations and our cell phone service was nonexistent. The one radio station still broadcasting said it would be 5-7 days before we would get electricity. In the face of deadly heat, I was really worried about my grandson so on Saturday I spent 2 1/2 hours getting a full tank of gas so that they could leave the area. Luckily gas stations are back as of today.
Things are getting back to normal but having been through a hurricane aftermath, it was like going through a hurricane with absolutely 0 warning. It a very strange experience. I am glad to be back here. I hope all of our members that are from my area have electricity by now but I'm a little worried because I don't see any posts from them. Hopefully they are just missing Internet service and not electricity.

Glad you and your family are okay. So sorry you are missing your parents. But I'm glad you wrote about it. Hopefully it makes all of us who read your post that much more grateful for our health, homes, and each day we have with our loved ones, and particularly our elders. Best!

Well, all I can say is Welcome to the Mid-Ohio Valley! Yep, storms come out of nowhere and you just never really know how bad they're going to be. Usually we have to worry about these types of power outages in the winters, not the summers.
My electric was out from Friday evening until Monday evening. Lost everything in the fridge and my underpinning ended up UNDER the trailer, instead of around it, but no other damage and I was glad. However, being in a trailer in 90+ degree temps, not so much fun. Spent a lot of time in the shower! At least I had water.

I have decided that I have survivor's guilt because there are still those without electricity! In this heat, I cannot imagine how bad it must be. I have invited people to my apartment but I haven't had any takers. The out of state electric workers are staying in one of our dorms. Many of them gave up their vacation to come here and work.
