Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
There are so many floors and court rooms be sure you know where you are going. I've seen more people come in assuming there was only one and didn't bring the room number with them.
Hugs to you. Let us know how it went.
You are going to be fine. Like I said get there early, that will really help you stay calm. I am fortunate I only live a few miles from the courthouse, but for everyone, your heartbeat is high enough, don't get stuck in traffic! Find the courtroom, or wherever your lawyer told you to meet. This is family court, calm, no prisoners.. that is a joke, smile..My stbx was sitting on a pew bench when I got there and I went up and said Hi, how are you and he turned his head away like a little kid... REALLY. Good start. He would not even speak to me, guess he didn't like me hiring tha "baracuda lawyer" I went and waited at the elevator for my attorney. He breezed in, took my arm and said you look great, ready, piece of cake.., Us legals visit the judge, go in put in on the record, tell the judge what we do have on the table, how we think this is going to go, set a trial date, and we go from there..
He had told me this before. That is about how it went. I looked good, acted like this was fine, like this did not upset me at all. That is my best advice, do not let him see you are upset. My lawyer introduced me to the other lawyer, we shook hands. I never went in the courtroom. While I was waiting outside, the judges assistant came out and asked me if I was a lawyer along with mine, and we talked.. she said you are in very good hands with him! He is the very best. That really helped. AND you are in good hands also, your lawyer does this for a living, that is why you have him/her.. Head high, stay strong!
Sending extra big hugs to you
