Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I don't like to be around him or talk to him. I do so much better when I don't have to. I don't have young children so it's different for me.
I'm meeting him today to try and work out some divorce issues. He is in a panic because we are going to trial. I'm going to stay calm, cool and collected. If I'm not able to, I may need bail money!!! LOL Just kidding. I want to show him that I don't have any interest in a person like him anymore. I'm going to go to the meeting with indifference and it will be totally business.
I just got back from Tucson. I'll be there a few times in 2009. We'll have to go to lunch or dinner and have Boyd come too.
I really like the idea of your own private funeral. I'm going to think about doing that. We can bury our wedding pictures in the yard. Hugs to you.
Funeral is one way to deal with dead issues. You can also have a rebirth which focuses more on you and your new life. Whatever works!
Too tired to say much beyond this thread is meaningful to me in a big way.... my ex is someone I adored,
pre-prostitute, but now, I can't stand him. I think I lOVE the funeral idea.....
My best wishes for you all, wonderful people........Viva DS !
I love the idea of a funeral. When I get off the phone with him I am always left with the same thought "What the hell did I expect"? The sooner I let go of my expectations the better I will be.
Zen, I liked what you said about his being a fraud! That is such a great analogy of what my ex idiot is.
As always, vision and food for thought from the wonderful "all too humans" at DS.....
You are wonderful worthy survivors, everyone of you!
The finality of letting go is the toughest hurdle but I feel once you've truly accepted that they are not coming back no matter how much you hope and pray, then you can start the healing process. It's not easy by any means because then you really start the grieving process for the death of your marriage, but you are right about the death of the man you knew - he no longer exists and if you can think of that man as dead to you, which he is, then I believe it can help you with closure. If that means giving him your own private funeral, than that's what you do.
Big hugs to you for finding your way out of the pit and coming back with words that inspire and support. I always knew you would. :)
