Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I had an appointment with a lawyer today. I was pleasantly surprised to find out my husband will have to pay me a lot more than he thinks he will if we divorce.
Last Monday he didn't want to dish out rent money for the condo and told me to consult a lawyer to see what i was "entitled" to. I think he thought that it wouldn't even cover the monthly rent on the condo, but he is very wrong. The spousal support I would get not only covers the condo, but all utilities and food too. Pretty much splits his check right down the middle.
I've been a little worried that he could pull the rug out at any time because he controls the money and what would I do then, but now I feel a little more secure knowing that if we do divorce, I will still have enough money for the kids and I to keep the condo.
I'm going to keep this under my hat for a while because I still don't know for sure if he's going to file or not. But if he does, he'll be in for a shock.
I've been doing ok lately. This move really took my mind off things even though we were together pretty much 24/7 this past week. I did have an emotional moment yesterday, but it passed a lot more quickly than in the past. I guess I'm truly moving on little by little.
Things are definitely looking up. Compared to 3 months ago, I think I'm doing pretty damn good considering what I've gone though.

I now know that what my stbx is offering me is a joke. He must have thought I would actually go along because I was so scared.
He is in for the shock of his life. At least I hope so. I'll let you know after pretrial on Tuesday.
