Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
When Nightingayle posted her ideas for Christmas I was inspired to do something different this year. Well, for most of us this whole Holiday Season will be different without our ex-asses so why not start a new tradition with just you and your kids.
Now mine are older (18 & 19) but I hope they enjoy this any way. I will have absolutely no money for gifts this year so I've already told them our Christmas (for the 3 of us) will be on July 25 - Christmas in July. Since I cannot provide the usual (which was a lot in the past) under the tree this year, here's what I plan to do.
I am going to buy 3 build yourself bird houses. On Christmas day, when their meager gifts are opened and breakfast is done, I hope the 3 of us can sit down and build and paint our birdhouses together. I'll do my daughters, she'll do my son's and he'll do one for me.
I'm actually excited about doing this as these bird houses will be treasures we can keep forever. When my daughter or son get their own house and hang this bird feeder, I think it will bring back a memory of how we (the 3 of us) survived our first Christmas without him and yet we still had a wonderful day.
Thank you Nightingayle for inspiring me to change my attitude about what Christmas is all about. I will count my blessings that day and not my heartaches. He'll be missing out because he could've had a bird house too if he would have only stuck around. His loss.

Christmas at our house has never really been about the big gifts.
Spending the time with family has always been our priority and it will continue to be that.

I am in a strange place. I am afraid of the holidays this year,
Dearest boyd I also have no family to be with on Thanksgiving as son and family will be with his Dad. I plan to be grateful for what I do have. Thank the Lord, call all my kids and then enjoy the day. I have always wanted to give back so I am volunteering to cook and serve at a church I don't go to. After if I have any energy I may go to a movie.

Christmas Eve we will try a new recipe and everyone will help. I'm gonna purchase a new jigsaw puzzle for us to work on together. The kids and I have always enjoyed working on puzzles together. I know we are dorks. We are going to string popcorn and decorate an outdoor tree with edible treats for the birds. It is probably going to be the best Christmas in a LONG time. No eggshells!
