I am having the worst time finding an attorney to represent me. Talked to FOUR so far. The first one tried desperately to turn our amicable divorce into a major battle so he could earn as much as possible. Ax. The second one demanded $275 to be paid up front before she would even consult with me. At the end of the meeting, she said, "If you have any further questions - and you will - just call. So, I did when I had a question. She referred me to a Divorces in SC book she had in her office that I was welcome to read. Huh? Couldn't she just answer my question, as she offered to do? Then, she agreed to work with me on an hourly basis, billing me at the end of the month. But, in a phone call with our financial planner and my husband's attorney, she led them to believe that my husband would be paying her retainer. They thought she and I had discussed this. We had not. Ax. Third attorney was a referral from a family friend. Never called me back. Ax. Fourth attorney, a personal friend, agreed to represent me but then, upon discovering that our separation agreement had not been drafted quite yet, and citing a close personal relationship with me, my husband and our daughter, decided the very next day, not to represent me. Sent me an email - didn't even have the guts to call me - to let me know that. Email was so full of twisted information and outright lies, I had to reread it several times just because I couldn't believe she would do that. Ax. Just unbelievable. Are they all like that - can't be trusted, super greedy? Sigh. Feeling so defeated already and we haven't even really gotten going….
