Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

I saw this response from Kimmee to another member who was having a hard time letting go of a 13 year marriage. I thought it was awesome and she gave me permission to post it here for us 20years and over.
It's a powerful message about letting go. Bugged, you are in here too with a journal you posted sometime back. It's all true. You cannot hold someone to you who doesn't want to be held. Read it. It's long, but so worth it.
I hope it helps at least one more DS member to "let go". Here it is...

To let go does not mean to stop caring,
it means I can't do it for someone else.
To let go is not to cut myself off,
it's the realization I can't control another.
To let go is not to enable,
but allow learning from natural consequences.
To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means
the outcome is not in my hands.
To let go is not to try to change or blame another,
it's to make the most of myself.
To let go is not to care for,
but to care about.
To let go is not to fix,
but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their destinies.
To let go is not to be protective,
it's to permit another to face reality.
To let go is not to deny,
but to accept.
To let go is not to nag, scold or argue,
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.
To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires,
but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.
To let go is not to criticize or regulate anybody,
but to try to become what I dream I can be.
To let go is not to regret the past,
but to grow and live today.

Letting Go,
â??How much do we need to let go of?â?? a friend asked one day.
â??Iâ??m not certain,â?? I replied, â??But maybe everything.â??
Letting go is a spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical process, a sometimes mysterious metaphysical process of releasing to God and the Universe that which we are clinging to so tightly.
We let go of our grasp on people, outcomes, ideas, feelings, wants, desires --- everything. We let go of trying to control our process in recovery. (or growth) Yes itâ??s important to acknowledge and accept what we want and what we want to happen. But itâ??s equally important to follow through by letting go.
Letting go is the action part of faith. It is a behavior that gives God and the Universe permission to send us what weâ??re meant to have.
Letting go means we acknowledge that hanging on so tightly isnâ??t helping to solve the problem, change the person, or get the outcome we desire. It isnâ??t helping us. In fact, we learn that hanging on often bocks us from getting what we want and need.
Who are we to say that things arenâ??t happening exactly as they need to happen?
There is magic in letting go. Sometimes we get what we want soon after we let go. Sometimes it takes longer. Sometimes the specific outcome we desire doesnâ??t happen. Something better does.
Letting go sets us free and connects us to our Source.
Letting go creates the optimum environment for the best possible outcomes and solutions.
Today, I will relax. I will let go of that which is upsetting me the most. I will trust that by letting go , I have started the wheels in motion for things to work out in the best possible way.

LET THEM GO....
"There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you, let them walk. I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean, Hang Up the Phone!.
When people can walk away from you, let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody who left.
The Bible says "They came out from us that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us." (1 John 2:19)
People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay.
LET THEM GO
It doesn't mean that they are a bad person; it just means that their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when peoples' part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the dead.
You've got to know when it's dead.
You've got to know when it's over. Let me tell you something - I've got the gift of good-bye. Its the tenth spiritual gift. I believe in good-bye. It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I know whatever God means for me to have He'll give it to me. And if it takes too much sweat I don't need it.
Stop beggin people to stay.
LET THEM GO.... "

Thanks so much, Chrissy. You made my night. You filled it with inspiration. And, it feels so good. I copied and pasted it into Word Doc - really enjoyed reading it. Hope you're doing ok too. LOL

I printed this off long ago - it actually sits on my desk - I can glance and read this at any time during the day - I often do.
