Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
This group isn't as active as some of the others, but there is good information here as well as support.
I too recently joined here. There is a different atmosphere here than other groups. Here it feels like the hurricane has past and everything is calm and the sun is shining.
I came here divorced, well on the way to happiness but was lonely and needed a common ground of people whom understood a divorce after a long term marriage. I did move on, made new friends here, and in "real time" and have never been happier. I like being independent, not that I wasn't before marriage and during it, but realize now what kind of emotional strain I lived with for a lot years. I will be grateful always that he did go to therapy with me for a year, that nothing between us was undone or unsaid when we did divorce. I had that advantage, which is huge.. and am the better for it. For what I do know is that if you do not address or own your part in the relationship, good and bad, you will not move on and be free to live life on your terms..
So welcome and it is good to see new people on here, for a lot us, me included are either too busy or have moved on. Divorce was a life changing event for me, leading to a new life, new career, helping others as an advocate, new friends and happiness.. my wish for all here to move forward to a wonderful life in what they want. Hugs and welcome.
Depends on your definition of single. For me, it means taking good care of myself, finding small things that I like to do - and seeing what turns into what I love to do - exploring new things, exploring old things, and generally discovering ME. I think that is the best thing to come of a divorce. Within divorce, we are living for the other person. After divorce, we have to look inside and live for ourselves. I think this is fantastic!
I have seen people here start finding themselves. Whether it is decorating a house that only they have, or discovering that they like to paint, or some other such endeavor, you will find this too. While society is geared around the couple, that does mean that is the way you must live your life. I remember at a restaurant with a woman and her family. the waitress hands me the bill and mentions that I have a lovely family. *chuckles* There has even been a couple of times I was asked about my "wife" with me. Gotta laugh and just go on.
You will find much here. Just keep coming back now and then.
