Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group

I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

Got an appointment with a therapist. Had to chose someone who was both on my EAP and my insurance. So, for convenience sake I take a chance and call the one closest to my house - two messages within a week and a half with no return phone call. Ok - scratch her.... next one on the list - left a message and she calls me back within the HOUR. Just so happens she has time available next Monday!!! I almost feel better already...lol.. I hope we can connect and I don't have to "shop around"... Wish me luck (the good kind) :) I sure could use it. Next week should be interesting - therapy and a lawyer all in the same week.

I remember the relief I felt getting that first appointment too. Therapy isn't easy and sometimes I felt kind of weird or just wanted to be alone for awhile to reflect after the appointment. But the benefits are priceless when you get a good therapist. I hope you don't have to shop around either. Way to go!

Way to go! You are taking care of Yourself and that is so important. My counselor helped me sort out so many things. I couldn't have done it on my own. Needed that objective point of view.
I hope you find it very helpful.

Believe it that taking action and making an appointment does make you feel better! An objective therapist that is helping you will take the some of the burden off you, emotionally. A lawyer will carry the burden of the legal side and help you there.. Best to you!

Good luck with your therapist. I'm seeing mine again today. She is 80 miles away in Jackson Hole but worth the drive. Has helped me a bunch. Knew immediately I would get along with her since she was a horseperson as well. Hope yours works as well for you. Best.

I saw my therapist today, after a very difficult visit to my grown kids up north.
The therapist helped me put my concerns in priority order. That alone was worth the visit. I felt so scattered and upset by all that had happened. Making priorities was so comforting.
I hope your new therapist will help you with your emotional priorities, while the lawyer helps you with the legal priorities.
