How has your disability and your sex life intersected? How do you feel that discrimination affects you, if at all? What do you wish able-bodied people knew about the disabled?
Do you need to rant, crow or ponder about something here with us?

I already mentioned the atitude I find in able-bodied people that if you are disabled you don't function sexually or, if you're disabled from birth, even think about it and that therefore are never gay. I've actually been told this and in the small office I worked in people would make comments around me to each other as if the comments would go 'over my head' and sometimes to me as if to see if they could embarrass me. I would never give them any reaction like embarrassment or outrage (eventhough it could probably be termed harassment) as that is what they expected, but I always let them know I knew what was going on and it always seemed to surprise them. This is from people of a generation my age and older so thankfully as I age it seems to be disappearing. Also I live in a rural area so that may have an effect on atitudes. In a functional way it had an effect because I have a spinal cord defect (from birth) and not so flexible and have a lot less feeling below the waist so that definately had an effect. There were certain things I could perform but couldn't be performed on me. But, as compensation it seemed, my sensation above my lesion was extremely heightened and my gf was frequently surprised at how "little it takes to get you off". Also as it turned out I had an internal condition - a prolapsed bladder that had fallen into my vagina that went unrepaired for years because none of my ob/gyns over the years ever bothered to let me know I had the condition until I went to a urological surgeon because I was in the er every 2 weeks with raging utis and bladder spasma (and my regular dr did nothing more than urinalysys which did nothing to detect a structural problem - and the er dr of couse only did urinalysis as well but at least was concerened enough to tell me I ought to see if there was anything a surgeon do to find out why. The surgeon found it in like 5 seconds and admitted me to the hospital and fixed it. Unfortunately my gf and I had already broken up so our relationship never benifitted from this. BTW, right after this I went back to the latest of the drs that had done my pap tests and asked her and she admitted she had known about the condition but had never mentioned it - so the previous ones had probably known about it too. I also chalk this up to discrimination because apparently the dr hadn't mentioned it to me because she didn't think it would be important or a problem to me. I guess she wasn't reading the chart very well or paying much attention (or giving much credence) to my complaints of pain or the frequent utis. I probably should have sued but that's more anxiety than I couls face.

im commenting about the sensation thing mine is somewhat spotty becase of my birth defect but i figured out what works for me to make me feel good its tough. im frustrated though i just wish that i could feel everthing like normal. im kind of nevervous fro my first sexual experiece with a woman i dont know if il be excepted becase of my disability. i have no problem telling people about it but i just get so tired of telling people and waiting weather they will react like you have experienced that kind of roll your eyes attitude. over the years ive seemed to feel things a litte more and more but not completly yet but still it gets a little better every once in a while. im just frustrated becase im young and not being able to not function sexualy is very diapointment so ive figured out that if i think about things in a spacfic way then im able to feel good i dont know if you know what i mean but it seems to work really good im just rambling ha ha. that is a really great question you had though

It's a struggle with ms. Fatigue being the main culprit when it comes to all out SEX. But that's not the only way to satisfy a woman....

I entirely understand about how you think about things effects how you feel. Most of my satisfaction comes from what's going on in my head rather than what goes on with my body. My brain is my most important errogenous zone. There are indeed many other ways to satisfy a woman than full on sex.

As for me, I have no problem with my sexuality. Of course, I'm nothing like I was when I was twenty years old, but everything still works perfectly.

sex is so over rated. I was really into it in my twenties and early thirties but since good ole menopaus has hit I just dont find sex to be any type of requirment. there are many ways to feel loved, it does not have to be sex.
