Hi. I am new to this group and really need friends and support. I was diagnosed with uncontrolled Diabetes Type 2 on 8/18/2020. My blood work showed a glucose level of 512 and an A1c level of 15.5. I was called back to my temporary provider's office for immediate insulin injection and in-office observation. I am now on 2000 mg of metformin a day and 8 units of Lantus insulin at bedtime with the goal of not needing insulin, just metformin. I'm confused, scared, and stressing out. I have seen a dietician and am on a low-carbohydrate diet that I'm still having trouble with. I lost 40 pounds before being diagnosed and currently weigh 113 with a height of 5'1". I want to get down to 105 and that is my goal. I see my brand new Primary Care Provider for the first time on Friday, September 11, 2020. She ordered a complete diabetes lab workup prior to seeing me and I'm waiting to go over my labs with her on Friday. I missed a call from her Medical Assistant last Friday and I'm afraid she has bad news.
I'm a 62-year-old female already with hypertension, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, and interstitial cystitis (chronic irritation of the lining of the bladder). I checked my lab results from the lab portal this morning and from the research I've done, I also have lab levels indicative of Stage 2 kidney disease, but I need my PCP to tell me this for sure. As such, I'm trying to figure out how to cope with all of this.
Would anyone care to be my friend and help go through this with me? I have absolutely no one to talk to about this and no one from whom to get support and advice. My husband has told me that I've done this to myself and I have no one else but myself to blame. Needless to say, he is NOT supportive. Will someone please be my Daily Strength Diabetes Type 2 friend?
