Diabetes is a disease in which your blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high. Glucose comes from the foods you eat. Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to give them energy. With type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin.
I can't give you answers to your problems, as I'm in a similar boat, and don't yet have answers. But I am single, and also have no one else for support. I'm sure your husband will come around. Just give him time to wrap his head around what this will mean to him and you.
I've been on metformin and had to get off of it. It gave me severe diarrhea, and I couldn't function. Fortunately, I'm also considered disabled due to cancer, so I didn't have to deal with having diarrhea at the workplace. At any rate, metformin did nothing for my glucose numbers. Ended up quitting, and got on Berberine. It supposedly works similar to metformin. But after being on it for 2 months, I'm finding it is equally ineffective. But it doesn't cause diarrhea, so that is a HUGE improvement!
Like you though... my glucose numbers are high enough to make me worry that I could get a stroke or diabetic coma at any time. I'm new in retirement, and want/need to live longer, so I'm motivated to make changes! I bought a bowflex, and recently got a rowing machine. The rowing machine is actually helpful! Instead of getting anxiety after getting a high glucose reading... I now get on the rowing machine and get to work!
Sorry... I can be verbose. If you're interested, I would be willing to be a part of your support system, as I need someone to be a part of mine!

I was just diagnosed with type II Diabetes just a few days ago.
Although I’ve worked in the medical field for many years and have cared for diabetic patients I’m depressed and scared with this new diagnosis. I believe it’s connected with the polycystic ovarian disorder I’ve been diagnosed with in my 30’s. The metformin isn’t working anymore.
I’ve purchased 3 books for the newly diagnosed patient. It has meal plans and explains what the diabetic patient goes through. Is it normal to be afraid?
I’ve read that the diabetes is no ones fault. It just has to be acknowledged and addressed.
Any advice? I’m not in a position to provide any advice as I’ve only been dealing with this for 3 days.
Thanks for any help and support.
