Desperate Parents Community Group
This Group is for parents who have an adult child / children who have made us feel like we were monster's to them and who blame us for things that we are confused about. I know I need someone who could be in my shoes and help me deal and understand!
The beginning of my life of a tortured mom
I was a young teen when I got pregnant. I gave birth to a baby girl who I instantly fell in love with. She was my princess, she was part of me. Although I was young giving birth to her I was there for her all the time. I woke up with her, feed her, took her to the doctors, everything a mother is suppose to do, especially basically being a single mom.
The father of my daughter's parents, let say had more money then what my parents raised us on.
While I was in labour, 1 month early I might add, my daughter's father asked me to marry him.
I gave him no response because I didn't want to marry him.
I found out after leaving the hospital and taken back to his rich family I finally learned that it was his parents who told him that the right thing was for us to get married!
I have always thought that getting married just because there is a baby now is the worst thing to do and can also cause a lot of hurt and disfunction.
After living with my daughter's family and having his parents constantly in my head (I was 16) telling me that I have to marry their son to make it right for my daughter or I would be a horrible parent and that they would use what ever sources, (money) to take my daughter from me, I gave in and married their son..
I think I should tell you their nationality to give you a bit of insight on things that happened.
This family is Maltese and the wife doe's everything for her husband and that even went as far as me being told by my ex-mother in-law that I should have flushed the toilet after her grown son went #2, and that I should have checked behind his side of the head board as he had a habit of picking his nose and putting it behind his headboard.
I was told that I was to clean up behind him, pick up all his cloths that he couldn't place in the laundry basket!
I was told that I couldn't have a social life while their son went out with his friends night after night.
The only time I was allowed to go out was for food, doctors, but I had to have my daughter with me, he never did.
After living in their home in the country and no license I was in their home 24/7.
After day after day, week after week, month after month of not having an adult life or even me time I finally put my foot down and told my in-laws that I was going away for 2 nights and that their son can take care of his daughter.
That didn't sit right with my mother in-law, it made living their hostile and I was verbally attacked by her..
She pinned me in the closet one day telling me that my mother didn't care about me and basically she was to blame for me getting pregnant.
She told me that if my mom was a mother and cared, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant.
But my mother in-law couldn't put herself in that catagorie although it was her SON who got me pregnant.
So what made her such a perfect parent?
I wasn't allowed to have any communication with my family by phone or even to visit.
My youngest brother was having his hockey tornament and I really wanted to be there and besides, I need to get out, I needed me time, time with my family.
Unfortuntaely the night before my mom and step dad was to pick me up, I had gone out with my then husband and his family for dinner.
My then husband had an allergy to shrimp.
That night, a bit of shrimp got into his food and he started to develope a rash, it wasn't bad and he was absolutely fine.
His throat never swelled up and didn't need emergancy care.
So when the next day came, I was packing to go to my parents when my ex mother in-law came in and started flipping on me, telling me that I shouldn't be leaving my husband in his condition and I have to be there to take care of my daughter.
Well lady, I was the only parent who was their for my daughter, while my husband was out night after night.
She told me I was a bad wife and mother, but that didn't stop me, I still went.
I had to tell my mom what was happening because I was young and I had my life taken and controlled by his parents.
After talking to my mom, I went home and told my husband that I no longer wanted to live with his family and that we need to find our own place.
Within months we did and I thought I was free from the grips of my in-laws.
I was mistaken. We had moved into a baseement apartment, which is all that we could afford.
I was so un happy and afraid to be living there.
These people we were renting from refused to allow us to put a lock on our bedroom/living room.
We had to share their kitchen.
I eventually ended up sick and in the hospital, so my in-laws actually took care of my daughter until I got out and was able to take care of her.
Before I was able to take my daughter back as I wasn't healed yet, my husband would go to his parents to see my daughter.
I should refrease that, I went to see my daughter, while my husband had planned to meet his friends each time and they'd all take off for hours and left me with his family and our daughter and his parents every time , patted him on the back and said, " have fun and stay safe!).
On our way home, a drunk lady ran a stop sign and hit us hard.
We were both taken to emergancy where we both had to have surgery.
I was released first so I was able to stay with my sister who was only 5 minute from the hospital.
While my husband was in the hospital and I was staying at my sisters a close friend of mine needed a place to stay so he could be there for me and help me.
I allowed her to stay in our little room kitchen/living room.
Without my knowing she also had her brother and boyfriend staying with her.
She used the upstairs kithen to cook what food we had there an there seemed to be no problem with the owner at the time.
After my husband was released we had to move back into my in-laws.
Because of my injuries my in-laws has to take me there to pack up.
While we were there, my mother in-law and the lady owner were in a corner talking, before I know it I have my mother and father in-law verbally attacking me.
Apparently this woman felt that although we were renting her basment, she could just go inot our room and go threw our things, then to top it off, her adult teen son was allowed to take what wasn't his.
This lady had apparently found dirty dishs, pots and garbage in our rented basement and that set my in-laws off.
I was told that I was a dirty person and that they were disgusted with me.
All along while they are yelling and telling me this, I tried to tell them, the mess wasn't from me, I wasn't there, my friend was, but they wouldn't hear it. So I was treated even worse after that.
Even my sister in-law who was much younger then me was ignorant and bossy towards me.
Once again I told my husband that I was not living with his parents and we once again moved, but the in-laws didn't like the fact that we moved across from my mom.
You need to know that each place that we moved to, I was still my daughters 24/7 parent and he didn't do very much with her but flip out if she cried.
My in-laws would come to visit but it was to visit their son and granddaughter and their control over me even went on in my own home.
Their son was a prince and I was the rag girl. I didn't have a rich family so I was really below them.
My husband was always flirting with my friends and making them uncomfortable, touhing his feet on their leg, resting his feet on their lap.
When I was asleep after having to have another surgery, my girlfriends came to make sure that I was well taken care of, and they knew that I would be left to take care of my daughter even though I just had surgery.
I found out by my girlfriends that while I was asleep and in a deep sleep due to the pain medication I was on, my husband was sitting right beside me coming onto them.
There was a single mom living beside us that I became friends with after some time.
We would visit each other and allow her kids to play with my daughter.
One night, out of the blue my husband asked me to go to her place and ask her if she would come over so that he could sleep with the both of us..
That did it for me. Why I choose to call his mom about this, I still don't know, but I did.
When I told his mom what her son wanted me to do, her words to me where, Ya, so what!
I was blown away and I knew I had to get out of this marriage and away from this family.
I had a friend who was able to take me in but she had kids of her own and there wasn't any space for my daughter.
I had to make a choice and it wasn't a choice I wanted to make and I even called a shelter.
All the shelter's were full, so I realized that I need for my emotional state that I had to leave and leave my daughter with my husband knowing that he would instantly move back in with his parents. And he did.
I knew that my daughter despite how they treated me, they would take good care of her.
I moved and decided that I was going to get a good paying job and find a home that I could afford and then take my daughter back, and I did just that.
Before getting her back I lived day to day with so much guilt and loss.
A few months before I was to move into a 3 bedroom apartment I go a call from my ex mother in-law telling me that I need to get things organized much faster.
Apparently their son was never home to take care of his daughter, he'd go to work, go home, shower and change into dress cloths and go off to the stripe clubs.
She told me that my they were the ones who put my daughter to bed, feed, changed her, took her out to parks and even to the doctor's.
They even put a bed in their room as their son never came home until all hours of the night.
I thought, wow, how can these people be so upset now, it was them who taught him that he doesn't have to take care of his own child and that it was 100% the mother's JOB.
So now my daughter is living with me.
I once again made another mistake and married a man who I thought was much better then my first.
I had 2 beautiful kids with him but ended up in a dangerous threatening marriage with him.
He started working with his father 5 years later and over time he started to drink from morning to night, his father, other guys at work and my husband started drinking on the job which they put so many people's lives at risk.
My husband and his father worked on dump trucks and did air breaks.
Eventually I started to see that what my husband had to live with his now what me and my kids were living with.
The alcoholism and physical abuse.
Yes, I packed up my kids in the middle of the night and ran while my husband was in jail for assaulting me for the last time.
That is part of my life and I should get to what I need help with.
My oldest daughter.
After having her come home to me for good, I could never get her father to come and see her, call her or even acknowledge her.
The only time he would see her when it was back to school. He would pick her up, buy her school stuff and not see her again for months.
He eventually got remarried and him and his wife adopted a baby but that turned out horrible for his then wife.
It turned out that this man didn't want to have any daughter's, he only wanted a son.
He left his wife and adopted daughter for a woman who was raising her grandson and that man worshipped that boy, giving him everything and nothing to either of his daughters.
When my daughter was about 3, my mom as well as my family doctor and myself started to notice that my daughter was out of control.
She was hitting me, she walked in my mom's house and purposely kicked my mom in the face, leaving my mom with a black eye.
For hours we tried to get my daughter to apologize to her grandmother but there was no way she would, she laughed all the time saying it was funny.
After my second oldest was born my daughter started beating on her.
My second oldest was still in diapers when she halled of an punched her in the nose for no reason.
The 3 of us were just watching tv!
Many other time's she waited for my daughter to walk past her and then she put her foot up and purposely trip her.
She had pushed her off her bed, down the stairs and there were times she would be in the park out side my window beating and kicking my second oldest daughter infront of her friends all the while laughing and threatening she'd give her more.
I feared for my daughter and kept my oldest away from her as much as I could, not leaving her alone with her.
I had 2 surgeries within 2 weeks apart, the first was due to cancer and then the second one was back surgery.
I had to ground my oldest daughter for attacking a classmate one day and after putting my oldest to bed, I was walking out the bedroom door, she jumped out of bed and ran behind me kicking me in the back so hard she knocked me into the hallway.
To her that was a joke and she was 14 at the time.
There is much more to this story, but at this time I am tired and my emotions of having to relive this, has worn me out.
I will come back and up date the rest of my story.
Please know that I am being very honest and I'm trying my best to type this as it happened.
I have also went threw a rough marriage as well and my ex does not talk to any of our 3 children often.
