Hey there.  I just wanted to welcome the new members to the group.  I'd be interested in what your story is involving a sociopath or narcissist.  I'm no expert but I suffer a lot from having a very narcissistic and probably sociopathic sister.  Looking for support and wanting to offer same to others.  Somehow I feel like it's my fault that I don't get along with her but I know that isn't true.  She makes me feel totally crazy and off balance.  Also, I feel like people who haven't dealt with this directly don't understand what it's like to be or have been close to a person like this.  I read somewhere that 1 out of 50 people is a sociopath.  So it's not actually that uncommon.  And I guess narcissism is even more common.  My sister doesn't think of anyone but herself. You literally have to explain to her what a normal human reaction would be in a situation that would require empathy.  Very odd.  Normally I stay aware from her but due to changing family circumstances she's back in my life.  Mostly I feel angry about it.

First and foremost you are not to blame you are not crazy and you are not off balance. You will never be able to relate to her because as far she is concerned you are beneath her and crazy. Lesson one: do not engage her in argument to try and get through to her. You will walk away from it worse than before. Basically in a nut shell it's a losing battle for you to ever get her see what she is doing. So,protect your emotional well being by realizing you are not at fault. I have been married for over 19 years and recently discovered I have been suffering at the hands of a narcissist. Before that to me he was my husband who is angry and vents alot. No he is a narcissist who puts blame on me for everything. He plays games with his girlfriend on leading me believe we are working things out. When in fact they are toying with me. I can not stress to you enough the importance of being emotionally strong when interacting with her. You will be drained always. Yes she is your sister and let her know you love her. But take care of You first.

I sympathize and truly feel for you.I don't know what it's like having a narcissistic sister BUT I do have a narcissistic brother. He's got MAJOR entitlement and revenge issues!! He,also, has(in my belief and opinion) psychotic views.

Thanks for replying. It is really hard and very draining. It's weird because as hard as you try, these kinds of people just don't get it. thanks for the support. You take care, too.

Its funny tho because we are grown ass adults and we honestly at some point believe they really dont know how to be normal? Try this out...Do something to them, do something disrespectful or mean or lie to them and make sure they find out, you will see how quickly they call it for what it really is..trust me they know exactly what they are doing and they know right from wrong, they believe they have a right like we are beneath them. when you fight them with truth....such as i once told my ex...oh no i dont feel bad at all for anything I have done back to you ....you deserved every single bit. however i did leave the state because that is not who i am . i dont want to hurt anyone, but i will not sit around and let someone damage my relationships and hurt and disrespect me...so if you stare into the abyss long enough you will become the monster your fighting.
