These food companies seem to be able to add all kinds of chemical to food without doing much research into the long term effect
All the trials drugs seem to go through for safety, and then food manufacturers seem to have carte Blanche
to add all kinds of artificial stuff to the food
Even if you buy a bag of potatoes it seem's they've been dusted with stuff
The large food manufactures and supermarkets have too much power and call the shots the bottom line always tops health concerns!
This is my Rant for today!
Doctors demand ban on man-made trans fats
Trans fats found in thousands of foodstuffs boost levels of 'bad' cholesterol, increasing heart attack risk, says faculty
Dr Alan Maryon-Davis: Why trans fats should be banned

Leading doctors are demanding a complete ban on the use of man-made fats found in thousands of foodstuffs such as biscuits, ready meals and margarine, because they can damage health.
The UK Faculty of Public Health is urging ministers to eradicate artificial trans fatty acids, known as trans fats, from the British diet. The move is needed to reduce people's risk of suffering a heart attack or a stroke, says the faculty, which represents 3,300 doctors and public health specialists in the NHS, local government and medical research.

This is one of DH's big bugbears. He was an industrial chemist in the food industry and is really against any and all of these man-made fats. Needless to say we have a little processed foods at home and would love to eliminate all of those destructive fats from our diet completely - sadly at this stage the best we can do is to limit them as much as we can. But look forward to a time when it will no longer be used.

I know here in Canada, the industries have had to reduce or delete all trans fats from their food. Now, the government is asking for a reduction in salt. It will become manditory soon. I notice many products that have listed no trans fat, but then they seem to have more salt or m ore fat of another kind. It seems everything these days have chemicals in them. That is so sad

Thought thay banned that awhile ago. I don't eat too much of the foods that have it in them cause I am diabetic. Probably just butter that I am aware of.

Margarines have trans fats not butter. I use Smart Balance which has none, The fast food restaurants here are slowly getting rid of the transfats but I'm sure they'll find a way to sneak them in because its cheap. Since I'm diabetic I don't buy processed foods anymore except WASA which only have natural ingredients.

I think it has been banned totally in Canada. I am like you, Arline. I dont use processed either, because of the ingredients and mostly the salt. I am getting to like everything fresh now. I dont miss most processed things at all, except Ketchup which I will keep on using :)

I miss processed foods terribly -bad or good - I love cookies and crackers and bread and cake
