Patients with high blood pressure could benefit from a treatment that curbs their condition using electrical energy to switch off kidney nerves.
The treatment could help the 20 per cent of people with high blood pressure who do not respond to drugs. It could cut the risk of related illnesses, such as heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure â and even save lives.
Surgery to deactivate kidney nerves using a burst of radio frequency energy through a catheter resulted in large falls in blood pressure, according to an Australian study.
