I was looking for an article I read recently and mention was made about poor sleep, overweight and diabetes re night workers I worked nights for 6 years and never really manage to sleep well in the day.
One of the reason's night workers tend to put on weight may be because if you don't have good sound sleep the brain craves sweet sugary things to make up for the rested after sleep condition often lacking in diabetics and night workers.
More and more reports are coming out about terrible accidents and finding the operators are working 70-90 hours a week to save on costs.
The people operating these systems often develop a kind of tunnel vision, and miss safety indicators
Strange to think the most profitable dangerous type of operator such as oil companies love to cut back on staff to save costs
and work fewer people for longer and longer hours
Ultimately, its the insurance industry who have some responsibility not to insure companies involved in these practices the evidence is there for all to see
It just galls me that people who can do nothing get all the Grief and the top manager walk off with a fat bonus

Interesting too that these dangerous industries are demanding so many hours from its workers.
I worked some 3rd shift too and could never sleep through the day. Now that I'm not working I'm up all night though...not good!
