Beware syrup of figs
lostonrye
On a Sunday afternoon in England is the worst possible time to be constipated, all the chemist shops are shut.
But thank god I had a bottle of California's finest, the liquid brown relief Syrup of Figs.
It certainly does the trick, but on testing before bedtime my blood glucose was sky high.Just couple of spoons of the stuff.
I guess its obvious, but maybe its because its so concentarated it had such and effect.
Just as well the plums are in season over here!

Thanks for that info, I never think before taking something for cough or whatever till it is done, then think oh no that was really sweet maybe I shouldn't have. One more thing to put on list of what to watch for. I try to drink lots of water to ward off constipation but sometimes there is nothing that stops it.

Gee.. I am glad that I dont like figs or prunes or anything like that.. even over the counter stuff. The only thing I take is fish oil capsules. Huggs Joanne :)

Figs are like a lot of fruit, healthy, but something we diabetics have to be very careful when it comes to ingesting. Figs are naturally very, very sweetand have a very high amount of sugar for their size. I know this for a fact because when I'm slicing them up to prepare them for the freezer for making preserves later, I end up with the world's stickiest hands and kitchen counters. I make fig preserves, but I don't eat them because between the figs themselves and the sugar used to make the preserves, it's like playing with dynamite with the blood glucose levels. The only time I had any major issues with the constipation is when I first starting taking metformin by itself. But, that issue went away. I eat a lot of raw nuts, fresh veggies and even popcorn so that pretty much takes care of the need for fiber in the old diet. :)
