Only the security forces can legally keep a handgun in the UK
So anyone found carrying one or keeping one a home goes to Prison

We still have shooting from smuggled guns or converted air guns and while you can buy a gun In any big city
if you know where to go getting the correct ammunition is difficult

I heard a guy from the USA saying having guns keeps people safer
which seem ludicrous and illogical to me. But the gun lobby is too strong for things to change.

There are too many deranged individuals in our society for anyone to be able just to go out an buy a Gun.
and who needs an assault rifle anyhow.


Our society is obsessed with guns and shootings Every film or game seems to have multiple shooting and violence at its core.

We cannot be guaranteed someone won't get through at the Olympics So what chance with someone like this
just try and cut down the odds

I have a gun, but I see no need for an assault weapon. I do feel that having a gun to protect myself is a precious right. We have so many people forcing their way into homes now. The criminals will always find a way to obtain weapons. Assault weapons and clips that allow you to fire 100 shots a minute should not be available. He bought his ammo online!

The problem with having guns as protection, is that the criminal aware of this is likely to be armed and will probably shoot 1st
burglars know they won;t find a someone with a gun in the UK and don;t go armed themselves.

If so many people are forcing their way into homes at the moment then having a gun does not seem to be much of a deterrent.

Even our regular Police don't carry guns. apart from the occasional madman.Very. few get shot.

Taking guns away from people is almost impossible in the USA San Francisco tried it but got nowhere

Lesa, I completely disagree with you. Does having a gun in the house mean you would have the nerve to really use it. I think there are other ways to keep yourself safe like pepper spray - a knife, scissors, etc. I dont know how hunters get guns but if I were making the rules, a hunter would have to leave ID, deposit, etc, and only be able to 'rent' the gun for a short period of time and then return it. No one and I mean no one except the law should be in the possession of a gun. but then again, I've heard of cops who have guns at home where either their child was accidentally killed by one or they went nuts and killed someone on purpose.

Yes I would use it. Law Enforcement encourages women here to take the Concealed Weapons class, get their permit, and carry a weapon. So many women have been raped while trying to walk in parks, many are robbed if they are out at night. We live in dangerous times and if you let someone get close enough to use scissors on them you're in big trouble. Many home invasions here have been stopped by gun owners. Making guns illegal will work as well as making drugs and alcohol illegal worked. Our streets are full of drugs. Prohibition did not work with alcohol. It would only insure that criminals and deranged people are the only ones armed. Law abiding citizens who only want to protect their lives and property would be at their mercy. Stricter punishment for crimes like this are what's needed. We don't make people responsible for their actions anymore. In a Concealed Weapons class you are taught to handle your gun and are also made aware of all the gun laws on the books.

My prayers are with the victims and their families. This was tragic. I do think that mass shootings have happened in the UK and in other countries that ban guns as well. Maybe we should be picking up on the signals that something is wrong with these people BEFORE they resort to mass murder?

It's not worth arguing about a ban in the USA, It is awash with firearms and its too late to change that

Guns are big business and vested interest usually win out against the ordinary individual. Just look at what the bankers got away with.

But from a logical point of view saying that a gun carrying society is safer is not born out.


There were more killings by gun in Texas last year than the whole of the UK a country with about 60 million people
and the fact is you are more likely to be shot by law enforcement if you are carrying a firearm even if innocent

The general view that gun crime is the local hood maybe true
But these kind of stranger killing seem to be educated College students who appear normal.

Governments all over the world kill their own citizens So maybe its not so surprising that individuals
do the same.

The unusual thing here is that they have got the individual alive. so maybe something can be learned as to the eternal why.

I can completely understand the victims saying the death penalty is too good for him
in most societies with out law enforcement he would be torn limb by limb

I'll bet he'll never go to jail. He'll be declared insane and put away at our expense for the rest of his life, I, too, agree he should be killed limb by limb but it will never happen, Perhaps we should set him loose in Iraq !
