Looking for causes of and ways to alleviate severe coughing. Hubby has lots of environmental allergies (also cats and horses), but allergist was not that concerned and said that was the "least of his problems." He takes a daily allergy pill. Has passed out at least three times from coughing so hard. Looking for help on easing this problem. He has several coughing fits throughout the day and night. He has a permanent trach with a laryngeal tube. Thank you for any suggestions you might have.
I'm new to this site so sorry you didn't get an earlier posting. I too suffer from severe coughing to the point of passing out "cough syncope" we found some of the causes are due to allergies and reflux. I take Nexium for the reflux and recently my dr started me on Tessalon Pearls capsules and liquid Phenergan with codeine. The Phenergan with codeine works better for me which is really important because even though I have a Trach when I get coughing to much I get into respiratory distress which isn't good. Also Liquid Roxanol has helped before
I too had to have a trach last July due to severe coughing and compromised airway. I have vocal chord dysfunction. I would have that ruled out also. It mimics asthma and allergies. You might get some relief.
