I lost my hero ,my friend , my rock, my dad.. March 22nd,08 of a heartattack.I can thank God that he didn't suffer as some as your dad's did. But, it still doesn't make it any easier. He had just turned 56yrs. old and celebrated his 25 yr. soberity!!! I have felt so sad lately . I miss him so much. I've always been the strong one and have taken care of my family and friends. That I feel guitly when I'm crying. My husband has tried to understand, but has both his parents, still. I feel like I'm in a box, with everyone standing outside of it. Telling me how sorry they are, asking me how I'm doing.. I just want to yell ,"How the H*ll do you think I'm doing? I lost my DADDY!!!" I don't want to be around people, I am very irratible with my 4 kids, and husband..
I'm just so sad all the time anymore!!And to add to it all I've lost a cousin, a close family friend, a great uncle, and the dad of my dad's memorial lost another friend. Then a week ago, I found out that an old friend past away... all in the last two months. Is it normal to be this sad ?
Absolutely. One thing I found out is when your going through this kind of grief, there is NO normal. I'm sorry for your loss. My Dad died Feb 3,2008. Like you, I feel like have of my soul is gone. My dad was 83 and died of Colon cancer. We fought it 7 years ago and thought it was gone, then it just reappeared in stage 4. I took care of my dad everyday, when to Dr. appt. with him. I took care of my Mom and sister, because they couldn't handle it. My Dad died at home. Peacefully. He was surrounded by all of us. For my Dad, it was a quiet and peaceful journey. I was my fathers daughter, we were very close and even though I have no horror story, my pain sadness feels enormous. Give yourself time. Grief is very individual. One thing I have found is that no matter how individual our stories are, most of the feelings are international. The loss is tremendous. I had to really talk to my husband several times because he, like your husband, still has both parents. He didn't get it at first. I found literature for him to read to tell him what he could expect from me. That helped him. This process takes along time. I went into counseling to help me and my counselor said if I get stuck in the grief process for more that 6 months or so, we'd deal with that then. I thought, "6 months, I can't feel like this for 6 months". Coming to this website has helped me enormously. Talking about it, even though painful, is the best thing you can do. For me, its been almost 3 months since my Dad died, I still can't sleep through the night, I wander around aimlessly unless I have a planned activity, I get that kind of nausea feeling every now and then. But the pain in my chest has stopped, I don't cry so much anymore, I've finally come to accept he's gone. Its a process. I'm so messed up though, sometimes I feel guilty because I feel like this process for me is going to fast. I feel like I should feel awful forever. A friend of mine told me, "you won't ever get over it, you just get used to it and move forward and time helps that happen". You've went through alot of loss in a short period of time, give yourself a break. Just take it one breath at a time, then one minute, then one hour, then day.......Take time to care for yourself. Hugs to you, Marge. My Dad was always whistleing some tune, he loved to whistle.
My Heart goes out to you, I lost my dad Last June 26, He was in great shape and in March we found out he had a liver tumor, the news was devastating. I was very, very close to my dad he lived next door to me
he and mom had just celebrated being married 50 years the year before. It didn't take long after his liver resection to remove the tumor he never woke up enough for us to talk to him we made eye contact and I know he was trying to tell me how much he loved us all. We were all with him when he died and it was horrible for my husband, brother, mom, children and my best friend was with me too. It is absolutely horrible. It's very tough to get through life's daily routine. My husband also has his parents and unless someone has lost their daddy they DON'T know the pain. Sometimes I think I hear him calling my name. I will never be normal again. NEVER I have a new normal but not the same since my dad has been gone. Just take One day at a time one hour at a time. I Love and Miss my Daddy ALOT - My prayers are with you.
I know exactly how you feel, I just lost my dad on April 10th. I'm feeling ALL of the things you are too. Only difference is my husband lost both his parents already and while that should be comforting and you'd think it would help, it doesn't. The only good part is when I start crying, he understands and lets me do what I need to do, or not do.
I lost my grandpa on 3/31 also, so I've also had back to back losses. And it's all around me, friends that have lost someone close to them. It's hard to deal with. And I have all these people telling me about their losses, etc etc etc
Everyone says that we will always miss our dads, but that the pain goes away over time.....I'm not seeing it, then again its only been a couple of weeks.
Just know that there are people here who are feeling the same things you are, and I'm not sure about you, but I'm hoping it helps me some.
Oh my gosh YES you have every right in the world to be sad. There is reason to worry if you did not feel that way. I too am the caretaker of my family as my worthless older single brother cannot help. I too have 4 kids at home and a husband that gets irritated with me lately as he feels I need to "get on with life". Oh just wait hubby you will some day feel the stabbing pain in your gut and the hole in your heart when you lose your dad. I will be there for him...no I will not say see how it feels I carefor and love him and would never be that hurtful.
You have had so many losses lately and you may think you are not handling things well, but I admire your amazing strength. Crying is good for you and helps to release anger, pain, frustration. I know that suppressing fellings can be so toxic for the body. You have evry right in the world to feel sad.
Big hugs to you. I will include you in my prayers.
Hugs to you! I feel your pain! My dad died on March 20th...2 days before your dad. Your dad was a lot younger than mine...he was 64. But I know how much it hurts. I am so glad I found this site! It is good to know that we are not alone. I too, lost a cousin who was 39 years old. She died of cancer in October. Please know we are all here for you! I was the oldest of 3 daughters and there was a special bond with us. I feel my dad's presence a lot of the time. I am so glad that when he died there were no regrets. The last thing I said to him is "I love you, daddy." He said "I love you too!" He died the next morning. Please hang in there!
Firstly, my deepest condolences & prayers to you. Yes, it is perfectly normal to feel this sad. I lost my Father on Dec 2nd 2007 due to heart attack just as your dad he did not suffer much; it took a while ffor me to get on with normal state of mind. Yes, i can totally empathise with you - my husband has both his parents and he can only understand on the surface level of this loss. Only people who have gone thru this situation can see thru many layers of the meaning of loss ...
After the second month, i went thru the phase of not wanting to meet anyone... even now i am not comfortable meeting people in huge gatherings.... i havent met many of my friends since my Father's transition. ...
But i have noticed one thing - the occurance of my feelings of sadness has reduced.. i think it will happen with the passage of time.
You can cherish all the good times that you spent with him.
ohh that sucks. I try to be the rock of the family. My dad died Jan 25 2008 of a heart attack. Though much older it was a shock. He was in the barber chair, but you know what, he loved you. 25 year sobriety, amazing , he must have really cherished you. My dad had an alchoholic son in law and told my sister the only reason he didn't become an alcoholic is he didn't have time. Thought he obviously didn't understand the disease he tried to for his girls. I miss my dad all the time. I get busy and sometimes pass a few days but you must realize what a wonderful gift you had in a father. I sometimes feel guilty that I didn't know what I had when I had it but I think my father would have wanted it that way, if that makes any sense.
Thank you all for your very kind words. It has helped to see that I'm not the only one, with these feelings. That it's okay to be sad. I went through pictures tonight, and I cried. I really miss my dad. So, again thank you for you very kind words, prayers, hugs, & your support. I'm very sorry for all of your losses too.. It's hard to lose anyone you care about. It's even harder to lose your Dad!

My Dad passed away on the 19th September 2007. Like the others here, I was very close with my Dad and it was an absolute nightmare coming true when he passed away. I remember when I joined DS I felt as if no-one else was going through what I was. It was helpful reading others stories and how everyone was progressing and dealing with their grief.
I can wake up in the morning now, and Dad is not the first thought on my mind. Its amazing how that happens. You almost quite surprised by it when you first realise it! I went from waking up and I was already crying, to waking up and then crying, to waking up getting to the shower and then crying. Now at nearly 8 months I can get up, go and wake my kids and have a laugh and a cuddle, go downstairs get their lunches for school, make breakfasts, have a cup of tea and then Dad will come into my mind. But the tears are not so often now, more when I am on my own.
But I remember when reading of others when they had reached a similar stage, thinking I would do anything to feel some joy in my life again. And it does come back, and be glad of it when it does and embrace it. Never feel guilty when you have days of feeling some happiness, our Dads would want this for us.
I still can't believe that my Dad has gone. Sometimes the thought can stop me in my tracks and just take my breath away.
Like Vicki412 says, our lives will never be the same again. How can they be? We just somehow adapt and like Vicki said, we create a new normal.
I wish you peace and its so good that we can come here and talk openly about our feelings and our grief.
