for me my writing seems to come without warning, but is based at least in part to whatever I am thinking or feeling just before the inpiration hits. I cant say that have ever felt "nothing", even when I have felt cut off from my self and numb thats still "something".

I've written something because I was asked to, spur of the moment, but it feels better and more "me" if I'm feeling the words

while feelings can certainly add dimension, depth, passion to a piece and even be the inpiration to writing, i think that writing is something that takes patience, persistence, perserverance. once one sets out certain habits, certain methods, then the writing becomes established, resolute, and less dependent on feelings.

Hi Trinity, Luv our tag in the Poetry Palace Grp. Doofus, Thank you for your reply. I asked that question because I find that when I am in conflict with my creative partner...we both write better. but it is killing our personal relationship as human beingS. I don't do the methods, it screwed me up badly writing this TV Pilot. For the back episodes I just dropped all of the" you should do this, you should do that," and I just wrote it from memory. It came out really funny. But I remember when I was in the "thick" of it...there were many tears. I do comedy "good"...I just don't do intimate feelings well.
My partner and I started a screen play together. A love story (which was my first mistake) I don't do love stories...I have no frame of reference, but here I am, in this story and I want to kill off the heroine, he does not...and that is one of the many differences that transpire between us. We have other projects together which are great, but I am really beginning to think our work is better when we are in conflict with each other. I hate that...so I am really thinking of... I don't know...anyway thanks for the reply...L

thinking of murdering him/her/the heroine/the partner? i love love stories. i love tearjerker lovestories that makes me wish i had watched it at home instead of in the theater because someone i know might see me with big alligator tears coursing down my cheeks type movie. BUT, the plots all seem to run together. after so many, the only thing fresh are the different actors, except for Elizabethtown. it strikes me as the anti-love love story.

how about putting her in a coma, or on life support...brain-dead but still in the storyline :)

Well the coma thing was our compromise. She is in this coma and he comes to the hospital and sits on the side of her bed and holds her hand and puts the earphones on her ears so that she can hear the song he wrote for her and with his other hand he puts her hand on his heart. Well I guess you know,,,they live hapily ever after. And I am good with that...but I am pretty sure that he took all of the conflict out between them so you don't really give a shit what happens to either one of them because they are all good. I had her as a designer and him as a musician. She had been hurt before and when she runs into him again after so many years...as he is from her small neighborhood ( his idea to give them history and I was good with that, kind of) she kind of lokks at his like...no way, I am not getting involved with a guy like this. But basically he is a really nice guy (for a musician) and he has been in love with her since they were both kids. And then there is this Cat between them...and the story goes on and on...it is really a sweet story and we had such fun writing some of it...but I don't know...maybe it is just his story now...One thing I do know...I can hardly wait for 2009 to come...I am counting down as 2008 was a year of extreme loss...2 dogs and a love that was like no other. I think I come on the DS Poetry and writing sites just to "get it out". instead of recovering from the coma and living happily ever after, let her die after hearing his song. her death can then become his inspiration to honor her by promoting her work...and moving forward resolving his own flaws and faults. nothing like self redemption when it comes to a good love story, otherwise they are just sappy..

handbooks are FUN....like lists with instructions! Any kind of fiction would be hard for me because like you, lack of frame of reference. I have to have at least some idea of what I'm talking about, though most of the time I make it up as I go along! :)

Been busy lately so havben't had much time to reply. I got my Handbook back but signed over the screen play, which will never go anywhere because it has totally changed and is no longer any good, so yeah, the Handbook is on and I just received the financing for it. I see that some people are trying to write group projects and submit them for publication. Please be careful what you put your writings to. There are people out there looking for "free rides" and have no problem taking people writings and submitting other's people work for their gain. Please don't get sucked in...remember I have been there!!!

when its emotional or something i feel passionate about it flows and i don't even have to think about what i am writing. but a polished piece can also be written without feeling anything, just by becoming impassioned trying to get it all together like a fine piece in excellent english. a different kind of a challenge with that. it probably doesn't have the same impact as when you feel something for it, but almost any subject can become somewhat of a passion if enough research is done.

I think that is all well and true if you are writing something like an autobiography, self help or a teaching manual but I don't know about a love story. I think you either have to be well versed emotionally from you own experiences or others that you have seen or some ready connection to draw from that makes real people identify with the characters and the purpose or journey within the story. If you do not have that then you have no story, just general information so why would anyone want to read a story that is neutral? I will always fight for "passion or conflict" of some sort in the story. Just my experience and opinion.
