The Queen Anne

I though I might share some before and in progress pictures of my mahogany Queen Anne chair I’m restoring right now. I have on last piece to strip the finish off and the it’s sand, buff, polish, oil and then finish with paste wax finish. 


So far I’ve finished three pieces with just “Old English” lemon oil and then paste wax finish. The wood, I must say  is stunning. I can’t believe people coverup such gorgeous graining in woods with heavy varnishes. 


So below is before and current progress pictures. This project still will likely take a month to complete before I get to the upholstery stage but I’m addicted to doing it the hard way of sand, buff and polish until the wood glows all on its own even before oiled.

Big Hugs, Evergreen. I’m glad these posts help make you feel better. I’m anxious to see it all done also but this may take a bit yet. My pieces as I work on them have the same effect of making me feel fixable too.

Thank you Invisible. I’m starting to feel excited for this piece but it’s still going to be a lot of time and work. But oh it’s worth it.

That's pretty Vit….. I'm a spray paint freak and if you ever want to modernize something old or antique with colour paint works really well with whatever the "in" colour happens to be

There are very few of my restoration that I am planning to resort to paint or varnish for, Suncloud.

I so love and enjoy the process of gradually revealing the grain and golden glow to natural wood by the slow process of sanding and buffing. It’s also very healing for my PTSD as I often make comparisons and correlations to the piece I’m working on and how I’m working on my healing. They have a lot in common so it’s very therapeutic.

I’ve see good paint jobs to restore a piece but far more bad jobs that ruined the original beauty. I’m not against painting pieces. My candelabra I made from an antique lamp I painted. It just depends on the piece with me. But if I can get away with it, I much rather go natural and make that wood shine like polished gems.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
