I have a question about costochondritis. We had our first experience with this condition.

My daughter, 21 years of age and almost 4 1/2 years out of scoliosis surgery, had her first bout with costochondritis on Friday. This happened on her left side. Even after surgical correction, her left rib cage is higher than her right.

This came up out of the blue--she woke up in severe pain. The pain didn't wake her up; she noticed it after she had gotten up.

She hadn't been sick (coughing), had no trauma to chest area, doesn't really use her upper body too much (she does do a lot of computer work). She had no fever, no other symptoms, just the severe pain upon awaking.

We went to urgent care. Her bp was elevated (127/79--high for her), heart rate elevated (88), oxygen levels 99%, no fever, chest x-ray taken (normal).

The PA diagosed her with costochronditis and put her on 500 mg of Naproxen twice a day.

She's doing much better and we are planning to go to her GP for follow up on Monday or Tuesday, whenever he can get us in.

My question is will we ever know what happened? Is this something that happens with scoliosis patients? (She also has asthma).

My question is has anyone else had this experience?
