Coronary Heart Disease Support Group
Coronary heart disease is the end result of the accumulation of plaques within the walls of the arteries. While the symptoms and signs of coronary heart disease are noticable in the advanced state of disease, most with coronary heart disease show no evidence of disease for decades as the disease progresses before the first onset of symptoms, often a "sudden" heart attack,...
Yes I am very familiar with some of the procedures. The stent will open up the narrowed femoral artery. Very non invasive, short recovery. The only concern that I have heard of is the passing of clots when the procedure re-establishes normal flow. I would expect that she also presents edema symptoms? PAD is very common and I have heard of marvelous recoveries to better than new status. The body has a way of coping with our abuse we tender it. I would suspect that your friend has been gradually been seeing a decline in her health. As the arteries narrow the heart works harder to get blood to the peripherals and if a blockage exists, that blood will try and make its way to those parts. Collateral growth is quite common with PAD patrients but never to the extent of a graft or stent procedure. Good luck and keep us updated. We learn so much from peoples different procedures and more importantly their recovery.
Additionally I assume they diagnosed your friend with an angiogram / echo type procedure. Were carotid decsending aorta etc checked for narrowing also, I, always on the look out, questioned the doctor's asking if my coronary arteries were stented, then what are the chances other arteries are in or about to be in the same condition. This only makes sense. EH?
