I am the mother of a 15 1/2yr old who has ODD. She makes life so unbearable! Doesnt do chores, is so lazy, no work ethic, sense of self-entitlement, shoves blame on everyone else for her issues, calls me and everyone in the family names, is very moody, the list goes on and on. I cannot stand my daughter now. And I am full of resentment and bitterness for all of the chaos she has caused over the past year. I am interested in finding out how others deal with their feelings in regard to their child's behavior and issues? I am currently in therapy myself for this but find that it is not as helpful as I thought it would be. Suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
I am new here as well. It is so hard and I'm sorry you are struggling. I am in the same boat. I hate the fact that I don't like being around my own child. We are having some success with essential oil's. I'm excited to see what has worked for others Hugs
I have a 15 year old son diagnosed last year with ADHD and ODD. He is on medication for the ADHD which is supposedly supposed to help with the ODD as well... We haven't had much success. We are new to this misery and feel at the end of our energy/coping with the constant stress he brings to our home. My younger 2 sons are being denied a normal childhood because of what he does, I don't know why this is happening. Up until a year and a half ago, he was a normal, happy, respectful kid. We need help, hope- and to see that something has helped someone's child with this...
Wow, I can relate to what you described. We have a 15 year old daughter that sounds just like yours.
I don't deal well with it at all. Honestly over the past several months, probably even the past year, I have avoided her as much as I can. I know that sounds horrible but I've given up in a lot of ways.
She won't listen to what we have to say so why bother talking. She's only nice when she wants something, like $ to go off with her friends.
I'd love to see her do chores but that doesn't happen. Academically she's a mess. Praying she gets through HS. I'd love for her to get a job BUT we don't want anything to further take away time from school. We try and reward her for her grades.
She has a 10 year sister who is the complete opposite of her, so very sweet and sensitive and I also fear her sister is causing undue stress and worry on her.
I wish I had some advice but I've yet to find what works. I am less stressed by keeping my distance, thankfully my husband had more patience with her and he's been dealing with the brunt of it lately.
In a lot of ways, I've stopped trying. I can't make her change and she sees absolute nothing wrong with her behavior. I just have to continue to set boundaries and deal with her not accepting them and telling us how strict and horrible parents we are.
For exmple, we just had a hurricane in our state of FL. We agreed for her to have a couple of friends stay over last night but she doesn't understand why we won't let her go off with them. Ummmm, we just had a hurricane. The roads are not fully cleared. Not going to have you riding around with an inexperienced driver in such conditions!!! Just no sense of judgement or realistic thinking. It's like she lives in a fantasy world where she thinks she can do whatever she wants, how she wants and with who she wants!

It is a parenting nightmare! I feel your pain.
