official break - and ideas?

So let's break until March 4, when hopefully everyone is feeling better. But in the meantime, can we put our heads together about topic ideas?

What do you think about the idea of taking turns choosing a topic & framing it for learning & discussion?

I was thinking I would go first, unless someone else wants to. I thought it might be interesting to take a look at birth/death in world religion & mythology. I vaguely remember Greek mythology on death, but there is so much out there I don't know. I would find it interesting, for example, to learn about native American beliefs & practices or Norse mythology or what have you. My intent would be to find short, fairly easy to follow resources for reading/watching & discussion.

that sounds interesting. i love reading historical novels about the middle ages. maybe we can work that time period into a discussion.

after our last "medicare/medicaid" discussion on the COPD board, maybe we need a discussion post of "understanding government help; federal vs. state'' & SSI vs. SSDI (why do they use the same initials SSI for BOTH "Social Security Income" (which we work for) and "State Supplemental Income" (which is welfare that we don't work for?)

just kidding (kind of)---although in october when social security medicare sends out the new "choices" to change coverages of both health care insurance & part D perscription plans it might be a good topic ;D

Good idea, Rachel. My sister works in denial management for a very large hospital group & knows a whole lot about hospital-related medicare coverage. Remind me to ask her if she could participate to help with the discussion or if she knows someone who could. It would be nice to hear from someone too who knows about part B and part D. Since I am still waiting for disability approval I am not on Medicare yet & don't know squat.

Sounds like an interesting thing to learn about. I'm on SSDI and headed for Medicare in December...

I have been on medicare since 3 years ago, do not have part d, because I understand it does not pay for inhalers. I still after all this time, do not understand medicare........So that might be a great idea.

I do know that nebulizer,neb meds & oxygen are covered under part b, for what that's worth.

just a quick note of warning to others; i just got hit with penalties this year---you HAVE to sign up for a part D plan within so many months of getting medicare.
i didn't want to spend the money for part D & didn't get it until 2010 (was eligible 2008)---as the government works; they just caught up with me & are taking money out of my check every month for "NOT GETTING PART D" in 2008 & 2009. (i now have to pay $11.50 taken directly out of my SSDI check every month for the "REST OF MY LIFE" according to the ssi lady that i talked to---11.50 may not sound like a lot, but now i pay for part D AND that penalty)
look at your booklet, it says it somewhere that you have to have prescription coverage!---if you have retirement or private perscription coverage you are okay, but if you don't you HAVE to get part D !
