I'm mostly just a " Lurker" anyway..
But..have been absent almost a month because my daughter had a stroke.
A COPD/emphezema question...
In the last six - three years ... I've had three different Dr.s tell me I have COPD with emphisema.
Finally saw a pulmonologist a couple of months ago..
And, he thinks not.
That it's more lmely an autoimmune disorder causing pulmonary fibrosis.
Anyone heard of this?
I know I'd likely get more answers on the COPD board..
But..have been more comfortable here.

I do not know the answer but I bet Dozy does........I do think if a Doc suspected COPD he would give you a Lung Function Test to back up his theory.
First time I went to my Plumy that is what he did run all kinds of tests before the DX.
Maybe message Gnott I bet he knows also.

Jc..from what I've seen over the last few years its not unusual for general Drs to miss stuff and lump everyone under just one banner. .esp. if you hadn't seen a Pulmy before now. Plus in many cases you can also have/ or developed a mixed lung issue as time has gone on.
Have you ever had a lung CT?
If not I hope your Pulmy is ordering one cause that should be the best way to get a clearer diagnosis.
Do you have auto immune disease ? gain, your Dr should be also ordering some lab tests to see if there's some trends there.
Sometimes other stuff comes into play but again, sometimes they never know why some folks develop pulmonary fibrosis and then its labeled "idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis".
Glad you have a Pulmy and hope you get the answers soon..
Yes..I have a rheumetologist and have Mixed Connective Tissue disorder ( multiple autoimmune..............)
I was supposed to have a lung catscan a couple of months back..
But, my dog had multiple serious health problems..
And then my daughter..
So..it kept getting pushed back
I'll be rescheduling.
My three " Dx's of COPD came from rays and how my lungs sounded
I was supposed to get all the pulmonary tests, as well, after I saw the Pulmonologist..
Haha... but.. a cardio stress test knocked that off schedule..
Now I have to orioritize the lung catscan/and some further cardio testing..
AAAnd.. all my daughters therapys.

Ha..I'm pretty fortunate, I guess.. in having all the specialists lined up already..
