Compulsive lying Community Group
For individuals who lie because they cannot reveal their true selves to other people in their lives at the risk of being disliked. Are you a victim of this type of abuse??
Hey guys, this is my first post! I'm sorry if this is a bit long-winded but I want to get out where I am in life and then use it as a launch point for the next posts.
I've been a huge proponent of self-development over the last large portion of my life. However, I'm very aware of the gaping problem that I have with lying. I've tried to address it with myself over the last few years, but never really stepped up to the plate. Somehow, in some way, I've managed to avoid detection (as far as I'm aware). Not a single person is fully aware of the problem, besides me.
But I'm over it now. Not that I'm done lying (that's why I joined this forum today), but I'm so tired of trying to keep track of everything. I'm tired of backtracking and trying to remember what I've said to who. I'm in a stressful place in life, and honestly, one of the best places I've ever been in.
A bit about me, I live in Detroit, I'm working towards traveling as I desire, I have an amazing community of friends and family who are super supportive, and I'm crazy in love with my new girlfriend. I started lying when I was young, but it definitely kept up through my life. My main triggers (as far as I'm aware) are trying to make people like me more, and trying to avoid people being mad at me. But at this point in my life (i'm going to turn 27 in July), I'm just sick of putting up a false front, and I feel that I'm strong enough to handle peoples anger if I mess up.
So simply put, I'm over it. Here's my plan, I'm going to be tracking out the number of times I'm tempted to lie, and then do everything I can to avoid lying. With each loss or victory, I'm going to be posting my progress every day if I can (I hope to have found a place that will put up with my almost annoying habit of needing to keep track of myself). Because I didn't find it yesterday, i'll start today and we'll go from there!
We can do this if we work together! I'll do everything I have in my power to help you guys with any tips or tricks I find along the way. To a truth-filled life everyone!
I encourage counseling, journaling and face to face discussions with yourself (in the mirror) daily. I'm on my 15 minute break at work right now but I'll detail more later. Just feel encouraged. You are not alone.
