A group for anyone who is a compulsive liar, not to be confused with pathological liar. The primary cause for being a compulsive liar being low self-esteem, We also welcome those who have been victims of compulsive liars to join as well.
Hi everyone. I'm here because I need help and it seems so hard to find for this. I have been a cheater and a liar. I hate who I've become. Let me see if I can get the whole story out.
I had a couple of really bad relationships. My son's father was a terrible alcoholic. He lied all the time, was abusive and cost me about $45000 in the end. I finally left him and got into another relationship a few years later. That one seemed okay until it became clear that we just weren't compatible. By the end it was another abusive relationship. The last two years were horrible. The important part about that story is somewhere in the end of that one I started to lie to him. I started to see other men and I started to lie often about where I was. I didn't love him anymore, in fact I hated him at that point so in my mind I thought it made sense why I was acting that way....
2 years after that relationship I got involved with another man. I loved this man more than anyone ever before. I couldn't get enough of him. It seemed perfect but the lying continued. I still talked to other men and even though I never did anything I shouldn't have with them, I could never tell him the truth so he kept catching me lying over and over. So last year we break up and a short while later I started seeing someone else. I didn't think my ex and I would get back together and I actually was very interested in the other person. At first I told myself I could just be friends with the ex... we actually never physically touched when we were together but I started to talk to him as if we were a couple again. Now I was lying to them both... I hated it... I really did and I hate it now to say it... they both cared about me so much. The ex, B, moved away for 4 months. I never thought I'd see him again. My relationship with the other man, S, intensified. I couldn't tell B about him and I couldn't tell S about B. S caught me in the end twice and he forgave me for cheating twice. Then I left him for B. I broke this poor guys heart into about a million pieces. Even though I hated myself even more every day I still couldn't stop. B moved back here and he found out about S. He forgave me a few times as well. It still never stopped. I crushed him as well. All the while I still loved and cared about them both... So why couldn't i just stop hurting them. I don't even know if I could now. I really want to get help... I feel like a terrible person... I am a terrible person. I don't understand what I'm doing and how I could treat people this way.
B and I were best friends and we may never talk again. The pain of that is killing me. S forgave me again. I don't want to hurt him again. How do I stop this cycle? I have never been like this before.
