Pia melody states the first 18 months of recovery are the hardest ain’t that the truth . I just hit the 18 month mark in March . What changes have you guys seen in your journey ?
i have been able to build a sense of self , set effective boundaries , build up my self esteem to a reasonable level , get in touch with my feelings . Deal with abandonment and rejection issues from my past and childhood . Learn to put myself first and manage healthy toxic guilt , with my own work and the help of counselling .
I still I’ll struggle with shame issues , routine , self esteem issues at times and I can get triggered but I am a lot more mindful . Obviously recovery is not all black and white there are many things to learn ,practice and to grow and old patterns can be fallen into any time .
I do suffer from anxiety which can range from mild to severe , but I know it is a sign that change is needed !
I just had the courage to start my recovery journey- I was in a co-dependent relationship for two years ; he had ADHD and I pushed myself past my limit to build him up- my dad was an alcoholic for most of my childhood and my brother had some serious drug issues - i was sexually assaulted twice and , I struggle everyday to feel worthy- after the two year relationship- I fell into a two month relationship with a really nice guy and I lost myself to the point where we have recently ended so that I could grow and improve. Its so overwhelming and scary right now- but I'm ready to heal and learn to really love myself
Thanks for sharing , I do think it’s importany to have that alone time to recover when you first get into recovery then have a relationship . For me I was at rock bottom so I needed it .
Relationships take a lot of work and are
Great when you are healthy enough to
Handle it and you Are ready To trust again
and you are willing to take another chance.
I am not to that stage yet. I am still a work
In progress and still healing.
Many of us need ongoing support or we can easily backslide, hugs
