Was not prescribed by my doctor. My doctor prescribed me a number of medicines, including Zomig, Elavil and Tramadol, but the only thing that works for me is Syndol. A mixture of codeine, paracetmol, caffeine and muscle relaxers.
Hello group, the only thing that has worked for me is sumatriptan home injections, it is a vasoconstictor and it takes the swelling out of the nerves burns as it hits them but they are wonderful, I have not found a preventative but have just went to a new wonderful neurologist who said that verapamil and lithium are the two drugs that have been prove to treat clusters, I have been to docs that prescribe preventatives that are meant for other migraines and they do not touch a cluster.
I know I'm like three years late here but my husband is a cluster head and I just found you guys. Has your neuro discussed oxygen treatments with you before? As soon as they start, he runs ro his concentrator and usually within 10 minutes they are gone but if we move past 20 minutes I have to give him the Imitrex (Sumatriptan) shot (now that there's a generic thank God). Also, I'm not sure how long you've been dealing with this devil but we always keep cold RED BULL in the fridge for him. These can alleviate the pain and make it bearable for you guys. I have lots of little tricks that work so let me know if you need help!
Thanks for the RED BULL tip. My husbands doc refuses to prescribe oxygen for some reason. I give him a lot of supplements and and this is the longest he has gone without cluster headaches so something must be helping FINALLY!
Anytime HoosierK but I have to tell you I'd find a new doctor because it's crazy that he will not prescribe that to him. He/She obviously hasn't studied enough about Clusters and this scares me. Hopefully he will remain free of them but please get a new doctor. And, I would go ahead and start searching now while he's cluster free and just make sure you are prepared the next time. I wrote a whole page on them with everything I know so find that and read it and again if I can help or give you any kind of tip please feel free to message me and I'll do what I can.
Glad to see that there other clusterheads trying help each other. I finally found a doctor who seems to know what he is talking about :). My clusters last for a few months and then are gone for a month or so and come back. My doctor recently prescribed Lithium Carbonate and Verapamil. I keep Imitrex (Sumatriptan) in my bag that I trake to work and in my night stand when at home just want to keep it handy when the episode occurs. But, one thing I have seen helps is Gatorade when the pain is starting. Just drink like small bottle of Gatorade when you feel the headache is coming. Once the pain is in, only Sumatriptan helps because my headaches last for about 2 hours. I feel Gatorade is better than Redbull.
