hi everyone....im a mother of a beautiful 20 year old boy and we have recently found out he is in the early chronic stage of cml.my world has come crashing down around me.it must be hard being the one diagnosed but when its your child there are no words of comfort.we found out on the 10th june 2013 so its still very raw.he seems to be coping well with no side affects at all from imatinib.although his wbc is very low now but they are thinking its just the meds working and it should work its self out.

I think everyone goes into a state of shock when you are first diagnosed.
I know it flattened me for about six months, but as the TKI starts to do its thing and the CML gets under contol, life can gradually return to normal - sometimes a new normal for some, depending on side effects.
There are also a number of newer drugs available, so if worse came to worse and there were any issues with Gleevec then your son can start to take another TKI.
Make sure you get copies of all the blood tests, watch what you read on the internet - make sure it is new information, there is a lot of outdated info around.
