Hi, I'm a new member. I have had CKD for years now. It is due to taking lithium years ago by a doctor that didn't take any bloodwork. One day I had routine bloodwork done, and the doctor said 'Your kidneys are off". I went to a nephrologist , and sure enough I had stage 2 renal failure.
For about 7 years now I have been at stage 3. I have high potassium in my blood, so can't eat anything above a certain amount of potassium. Things like tomatoes, potatoes, peanut butter and chocolate are on my 'once a year" list. I remember a kidney doc saying "Think of any food that 's healthy and Don't eat it". That about sums it up. The only fruits I can have are apples and grapes.
I have just been diagnosed with osteopenia, the precursor to osteoporosis. The phosphorus that's not being filtered has started taking the calcium out of my bones. I am going to a PT next week to really explore what exercises to do to help this get better. ( I have been told to do weight bearing things for an hour a day) .
I hope there are others here to talk to . It seems like a quiet room, but maybe that's just today.
