The cause of the weakness of your Christian life is that you want to work it out partly yourself, and to let God help you. And that cannot be. You must come to be utterly helpless, to let God work, and God will work gloriously.
It is this that we need if we are indeed to be workers for God. God’s servants already in the Old Testament counted upon the omnipotence of God doing impossibilities.
And this God lives today, and this God is the God of every child of His. And yet we are some of us wanting God to give us a little help while we do our best, instead of coming to understand what God wants, and to say: “I can do nothing. God must and will do all.” (by Andrew Murray)

I don't disagree with this, but I would still like to see the supporting Scriptures for these conclusions. Too often, we do think once we are saved, that we have it all together, and now we can go it ourselves.

But that is a foolish lie. We do need to utterly and completely depend upon God to work for him, and to be used by him. I'm thinking there are verses to support this, but nothing is quite coming to mind.

Can anyone think of some verses that compliment this devotional?

The Lord says: "I am the vine you are the branches...Apart from Me you can do nothing." Even about Himself the Lord says: "The Son can do nothing of Himself"

This is what our sermon was about today and it really hit home with me. The problem I seem to have with this is submission, and giving up control. I know I am supposed to all of these things to let God into my life and heart. I am trying baby steps, I know I need a leap of faith, but something quite possibly me is holding me back.

Always remember Abathagayle, that knowing Christ and totally trust him is a journey and a process. The point is to press into him. Ask for forgiveness when you drift away, and ask God to help you with his Holy Spirit, to grow in him, and to find the things that do cause you to not want to submit, and help you pluck them out of your life, forever.
