I was baptized into Christ on Monday, and my family is furious.

Backtracking.
I was born and raised in a family that identifies themselves as Catholic, but we never really practiced or very religious. I was christened and had my first communion. You went to church because you were supposed to. but a few years later my parents got divorced, my mom "wasn't welcome" in the catholic church, religious school fell by the wayside as things such as softball practice had conflicting schedules. I was never confirmed, and I became more or less agnostic as a teenager and into my college years. Late 2013, I started going back to the catholic church because I had been going down a dark road, and needed something to change my life, and going to church was supposed to make you a better person. Well, this lasted a few months, but I never felt like I fit in; I didn't know the prayers, I wasn't confirmed, and a lot of what was being said went over my head. I felt like I was going through the motions, like I was being fake, so I stopped going.

Then in September 2014, I was at a small dinner party with an older couple. My friend asked me "Are you a Christian?". automatically, without thinking, I just said Yes. But then he asked me "Why?", and I discovered that apparently "because I was raised Catholic" isn't a valid answer. He told me his story, and talked about God and Jesus and the Bible, and I was in awe. He lent me a Bible, and sent me home to read the book of John. I knew that I needed to come back to Jesus.
Shortly after this meeting, I started seeing my current boyfriend, who is probably the most amazing person I have ever met. He is also a Christian, and is a member of the Church of Christ. He has never pushed his personal beliefs on me, and we don't really discuss it unless something comes up. A couple weeks after we started dating, he casually invited me to go with him to church before dinner, and I accepted. I just observed the first time, I was skeptical and intimidated, but I knew I had to give it a chance. I've only missed a couple of sundays since (due to holidays [in another state] with my own family), and have even started going to Wednesday lessons. I finally feel something, and it all makes so much sense. Just live by the bible! Its almost too easy! A week or so ago, the preacher gave a lesson over Romans, and something clicked. I need to do something, and I gave some serious consideration to getting baptized. I kept this to myself, because I don't think a decision like this should be made on a whim, and I considered it some more. This past Sunday, after Church, my boyfriend and I were talking, and he asked "Have you thought about getting baptized?", and I confessed to him that I had been thinking about it a lot, told him my thoughts and feelings, and after voicing my thoughts out loud, my decision became clear. I was baptized the next afternoon.

When my mother found out, she was furious. In retrospect, I should have discussed my decision with her, but she is a very controlling type and not really religious, nor are we very close, so it wasn't the first ting on my mind. She didn't listen to a word I said. She called me weak, insisted that the only reason I did it was to make my boyfriend happy, that I'm disrespectful, that I was wrong. I really think she may disown me over this. She even called my brother to tell him about it, and I value his opinion more than hers, and as of right now he is on her side.

I've got plenty of support, but its really hard when your family thinks you have done something awful, when you believe you have done something great.
