The Mormon religion is not considered a Christian religion, but more of a cult.

My one brother left the Catholic Church to become a Mormon, and I don't think that they believe Jesus is God. The few things I know about that religion are not in agreement with the Bible. I hate to offend any Mormons who may be in this group, but this IS a Christian group.

From what they told me they do believe in Christ. They just believe that God has sent new prophets. Anyway, I just sent them a text and told them not to come by anymore. And it felt as if a weight had been lifted that I didn't know I was carrying. They do not associate themselves with that Jeffs guy. Or any man like him.

Sure the Mormons believe in Christ. They also believe Christ was a brother to Lucifer, or the devil. They also believe they are all going to be gods one day with their own planets. Of course, you have to baptize the dead, and wear strange underwear.

I read the Book of Mormon, and it conflicts and clashes with the Bible everywhere. So throw it out burn it or give it back. And don't let them back in you house.

Read the Bible, God's word to men!!

I, like others here, really don't want to encourage any one to get serious about another "religion". Please, remember "religion" is man-made. Relationship with God,.......well, this is God breathed!!!

I an Baptist only because they are, what I feel, closest to what the Bible teaches. Don't get me wrong, there are many things the Baptist teach, I don't agree with. I am CHRISTIAN first and foremost. I am Baptist only because I feel God has put me there. I have been in other churches where I felt the Spirit moving, but God did not lead me there.

I will be praying with you about this. My suggestion, stay away from them. They put more emphases on their founder, John Smith, than they do Jesus.

Mary, you have some words of wisdom. I might add it was Joseph Smith, not John who was the founder, who says that angels brought him the book of Mormon on tablets of gold. Which have somehow disappeared! You would think that tablets of gold would be worth keeping or showing off.

I am also a Baptist, don't agree 100%, but that is the good thing about Baptists. They believe in the "authority of the believer". So long as you can back it up with the Bible, and understand the basic principles of Hermeneutics, you can believe differently on some issues, than the person sitting next to you in the pew.

Baptists are very diverse, from independent and radically fundamentalist, to the huge Southern Baptist Convention (my former convention and my Seminary!) which has become a bit dogmatic in the last couple of decades about what you must believe and papers to sign if you want to work for them. I am currently in the North American Baptist Convention, because it is the church God wants me to be in. The pastor is incredible, and I have many friends and family there. But if I move, I may change to a different convention, which allows women to be pastors. (My big disagreement with the SBC!) Of course, I have studied the Bible in the Greek and Hebrew on this issue, and came to my conclusions as a result of reading the Bible.

Anyway, glad to hear that you got a good night's sleep. Just don't open the door again for those Mormons, ok?

I was raised Southern Baptist but had some problems with the Baptist church here. I am non denominational.
I attend a Lutheran church because that is where my husband goes. But I also attend the Christian church here in town. I have been sleeping better since I sent the girls the text. Thanks for your replies.

I was in a Fellowship Baptist Church which reall thinks all other denominations are wrong, ended up with a very domineering pastor and we left and are in a Missionary church which agrees on most same points but we feel less bound in do s and donts.

mormons beleive Jesus started out as a person but became God, it is quite strange when you read thier faith articles.Those missionaries that come to your door usually are higher up in church, and specially trained for the job of door to door evangelizing, be careful, gettiing into debate with them is not going to help much.
I keep tracts by door for them and JWs and say I will read thiers if they read mine. usally dont come back.
I right up front give my faith statement too.
I pray for God to protect my mind against false doctrine and give assurance that He is my god and Christ my savior.

Well my girls just came by. Yes I told them they could. I wanted a chance to say goodbye and plead my own case. Anyway, they were a little sad that I would not be joining them or allowing them to come by and 'study' with them anymore. It was a nice visit and I tried to impress upon them how much the Lord has blessed me and will continue to bless my life without the Book of Mormon. Oh, and I slept until eight o'clock this morning.

Good girl. Too many of these "religions" are cult like, if not down right a cult. The biggest give away is that they work so hard to get you to "join" them.

Most are too involved in their "religion" they are hard to talk to.

PogoPalOj, I am Lutheran as well (raised United Methodist--my parents switched right after I went to college because they moved to a town where the Methodist church had no young people for my younger brothers, so they joined the church that had lots of youth and was right up the street, which happened to be Lutheran).

But we had some horrible things happen to us in our former Lutheran church, an ELCA church; we left (we were actually kicked out, in the words of the pastor, because we were ruining her ministry--our sons were sexually abused by an employee/non member of her church, and also later by a member/employee of her church [both abusers knew each other from their high school days] and she admitted she had no idea how to handle it, and refused to get someone qualified to handle it as we requested; she was always all about doing loads of service projects and keeping track of who helped and how many were helped in food pantry, soup kitchen, healthcare events, etc, so she looked good to the synod -- very little efforts went toward good worship, and fellowship) so we visited many different churches of lots of denominations for over a year and a half, and ended up at a Lutheran church that is Missouri Synod. Less than a year after we started attending, the 80 year old awesome pastor retired, we miss him dearly, and for almost 2 years now they've had supply pastors, but the congregation has been wonderful in carrying on all their activities and ministries, and have actually added members in that time. This congregation has really helped us heal.

I absolutely don't mean to offend any ELCA Lutherans, and I'm not saying you should leave your church; as with any church, many don't follow everything that is put forth in their doctrine, but it's an interesting site to explore, and is just some good food for thought...
