CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
I have reconciled with my daughter and she is now treating me with courtesy and respect. Change can happen, but I believe they need to see a change in us. I think it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said that we teach people how to treat us. I believe that's true.
I'm not sure that we ever allowed our kids to be disrespectful to us but they were anyhow. It seems to be the culture nowadays and as adults they seem to get away with it since there is now way to discipline them once they leave home.
quietmama, We did the same as you about a year ago. Our ES behaved very disrespectfully to us and we drew a line at that point and said "enough". Most people would leave someone alone who doesn't want to be bothered but our ES is different. He has tried every avenue to get to us, the communication that does get through is rude and scolding of us. In between times though we have peace. It has been much better than answering his calls, texts, emails (all blocked now) with all of his complaints against us. We hoped it would be a quick lesson for him but so far he does not appear to be at all sorry. At least we aren't in a battle royale with him every other day. Blessings.
