Well today the early childhood intervention people came out to evaluate my little grandson who is barely speaking. Not surprisingly, they did find him to have receptive and expressive language delay and so he will qualify for services. The cost will be very minimal, which is a good thing. They did not see anything that pointed to autism, which is a relief. They said he engaged with them just fine, so that part was good. He did have meltdowns when they took his toys away, however, which to me would be a normal thing for a 2 year old, but they said he didn't "transition" well from one activity to another, and said he was spoiled! That was sort of a shock, and they said one reason they felt he isn't talking more is because all of us give in to him whenever he points to something, we get it for him. And we need to make him say the word. But he can't! Anyway, the team will come back out on Thursday to make a plan and do paperwork, and then they will start therapy. My daughter was sad, but not surprised. I am relieved that he will be getting help. Please continue to pray for us.
With your grandson, I was thinking they would say everyone was doing things for him too much. But it is so fun to play with them we all forget they need to do things on their own to learn. Take care and don't worry one day will come he will be jabbering away to everyone !
