I heard a great message this weekend based on the book Who Is This Man? by John Orttberg (not sure of spelling). He said that when you're going through hard times life is like Good Friday, Sat. and Sun. Good Friday is when the bad news comes. Saturday is where you spend most of your time. Trying to cope. The disciples had no idea Jesus was going to rise. Then comes Sun. When you're in Sat. remember Sun. is coming. I have to find that book.

Did he happen to mention how long "Saturday" would last? It is a good way to look at our estrangements and as Christians we should never give up hope.

I think that the disciples were especially despondent because they had been told that Jesus would rise from the dead; but they had to have been unsure of this because he had not yet done so. Their hope had to have been waning as each hour went by. They had come to believe that Jesus was the promised Messiah, but now they were not too sure to of that. Scripture had told them not to believe what a person "says" but to only believe what a person "does" what he says he is going to do. There were always false prophets around but due to lack of their prophecies coming true, people rejected them and their words.

Although Jesus had performed so many miracles while he was still alive, including bringing the dead back to life again, he had not brought himself back from the dead through the Father. It was only after He appeared to them after three days that their faith was made firm - He had done what he told them he would do. Jesus, the prophet, was who he said He was because He did what He said he could do; and no other prophet had done this before.

As I see it, we remain in our Saturday darkness due to our weakness in faith. We focus on our losses in this life, just as the disciples did, rather than focus on God's promises of what is to come in the future. Our darkness should not overtake us and keep us in a Saturday darkness because we have the proof of his resurrection.

Just my thoughts on this good topic feeling.

Norske - There's no telling how long our Sat. is going to last. We can hang on better if we know Sun. is coming. Keep the faith that God knows what He's doing.

feeling, I like how the speaker divided the 3 days into stages of our lives. The Saturday stage was dealing with life. Praise God we have the Word and the Holy Spirit to give us a shelter in the storms and we all have them. We turn to Him while unbelievers seek for means of help that will never work. The best part is that we already know that Sunday is coming. We have read the book. We know the end of the story. Jesus is coming again. Joy comes in the morning

Life is hard but Joy comes in the morning.
