I don't know if it is "usually" sons, but in my case it is. I understand completely you having to watch every word you say. I have been estranged from one son for 3 years and I thought sure it was going to kill me. However, I'm still here and I have my bad days occasionally but it does get better. I just didn't want to accept it, but have been forced to. From the day he married there has been a wall.

Just know that you are not alone and that time does help. I never knew this kind of thing was even possible, but have learned that it is fairly common. I would say to read everything you can on the subject, stay as close to the Lord as you can and He can and will deliver. He may not answer the way you want, so far not with me, but I can do all things thru Him.

Welcome here. We understand. Many ladies here can specifically address an estranged situation due to a DIL. My estrangement is with a unmarried daughter.

I love what you said about making a War Room. There is nothing better than going to the Lord in prayer. He is ready and able to take on this battle for us. He will answer in His way and in His timing. The Lord will speak to you about reaching out or not. It is different for each person. He will show us what is right. Only God can change another's heart.

Please come often. We need one another.

I fully identify with you as I also have health problems and feel that hasn't helped my relationship with my sins. One didn't contact me for four years and I was broken as he had always been there for me as I was divorced when they were only young. Think his wife objected to him being there for me. We are in touch now. My youngest son never invited me to his wedding.... Now he is divorced and has a new girlfriend who has made it clear she has no time for me. He is not interested in anything I have to say or how I am. No intention of things being right between us, yes I think Sons once they have a partner turn away from you. I am sure one of us deserve what has happened. I have always been there for them, done my very best. It is behind hurtful.

My, I didn't expect how my heart could be lifted by others experiencing the same as I, most especially others in Christ. Thank you for the warm welcome and uplifting and encouraging words. Thank you also for reaffirming that I wait upon the Lord before I reach out… I want to call so much, but He guides me not to at this time, in His time… and yes, we can do all things through Him…

Praises to Him who loves us - for each of you who have uplifted and encouraged me. I never knew this type of 'estrangement' existed, (I was the youngest of 5 girls). My Mom and Dad mean (meant) the world to me.

For some reason our estranged son believes all the lies his girlfriend tells him even though he knows differently, There is a saying which I probably am not expressing correctly but it something like "A daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life. A son is a son until he takes a wife." Don't know why that came to mind but it seems to fit the situation. All I can say is that I have been cut off from all communication - our phone is blocked, I am blocked on facebook as well as email. All I can do is turn to our God and Father, He understands everything we endure. The War Room is an excellent idea. Using the tools of God is our best answer to the evil in their hearts. God does have a plan for each of us even though it may not be revealed to is now. Our faith will get us through. We are here for you because we do understand.

Oh boy, here I go again. Your story is very much like mine. I have three sons and a daughter. My estranged one is my second son. He was a wonderful son for 23 years and then he met HER. We were so excited for him to have met someone, and could not wait to meet her....but everything blew up in our faces. She has been diagnosed with a plethora of mental illnesses, but this is the thing I want to make abundantly clear....she is also manipulating and just pure evil. I never knew people like her existed, except on tv talk shows or in the movies. She is apparently very threatened by us, although I do not know why, because I have never been the "clinging" type of mother to ANY of my kids. I simply had too many, lol! And plus I was busy with my own life to be meddling in my kids. But nevertheless, she somehow thinks this is some war game and she has "won". She has said and done the most horrible things you can imagine. The most recent was she sent me a terrible email saying I can never see the grandchildren ever again because I "dared" to be Facebook friends with these two women that she hates. And then she called me a miserable lowlife, and then accused my husband of having an affair, and ended it with "who can blame him?" So yes, I can certainly relate to your story. And like you I watched War Room about a month ago and I also have written down my pages of prayers and as hard as it is, I pray for her as well. I pray over each list out loud. We are all here for you to vent, rant, or whatever you need. Hugs to you.

For me it is my only child, my son and his wife is the catalyst. I now have health issues due to the estrangement. The estrangement has brought me closer in my relationship with God. Praise Him for His great love for us.

Write !!! I meant. Just now I am in a lot of pain and taking strong pain killers. I have pain all the time but sometimes it's really bad.

My case it was my daughter after she married it was over. Its been on and off for 8 years. I have gone from having my phone blocked, facebook blocked, email blocked and at one time they tried to get a restraining order. For absolutely nothing. I have done nothing but loved my children and gave my whole self to them while they were growing up. This is my reward. Now my little grand daughter is used against me. Its satan at work. Have to stand firm on Gods promises. I do hear from my daughter now, but it is very strained. I have to be absolutely careful at what i say, or i am cut off again. I am so use to it now, it doesnt hurt me as much. It becomes a cycle. I just drowned myself in Gods word, and that is where I find peace and comfort. You have too or you would lose your mind.

Yes me to its the son things have feastered like a boil,i have taken all i could mental,emotional,financial,verble abuse toward me and my dh by our son,and dil sits back and is the silent bully. And the lies they have told us,and now since i defended myself,dh,and our grandson they have chosen not to be in our life,we have texed,called,tried to contact son at work,even said i was sick and to please call and everything has been ignored and there is nothing i can do,our gs loved to come to our homefor the day every wk,he still has christmas presents here,i have sent cards to him in the mail,letters in email,and sent him a valentine box with a stuffed puppy,hershey kisses,and 2 matchbox cars so maybe he will think " oh yea momom and poppop" cause he always had 2 matchbox cars sitting in his chair every wk. I feel what son/dil aredoing is child abuse/elder abuse, but the ball is in there court. God help all go through this torment,my son/dil are evil and brainwashed.No other words for it.

Talk about these children of ours having no natural affection... How they live with themselves I do not know.

It is truly sin. It is against God and His Word.

My question too: how will - and do - live with themselves? There is mental/emotional illness at the core of each of these children. Otherwise they would have a clear exchange with mum and/or dad stating their issues and seek a resolution. They don't , guilt-tripping us and mishandling us all the way.

I feel sad for my own ED who is intelligent, articulate but oh, with a deeply flawed essence. Borderline paranoid schizophrenia might unfold in her future if she does not seek help now. She knows it and it terrifies her that I do. She is in God's hands. I tried reaching out but was shunned and mocked.
