Today is the day I say goodbye to my constant companion of almost 16 years...my little poodle, Rippy. He started going downhill late autumn of 2013, and right before Christmas that year my husband brought home our other little poodle pup, Chewy, because he really didn't think Rippy would live past Christmas and couldn't bear the thought of me being sad. But once Rippy saw little Chewy, he perked up! It has been touch and go ever since, with him having good days that would stretch into weeks, then setbacks, and so forth. There have been several times we just knew we would have to put him down, but he always rallied. Not this time. My poor little dog is deaf, blind, incontinent, has a huge tumor in his neck/throat, is coughing nonstop (sometimes blood) and now crying in pain. Even though I know in my heart this is best, why is it still so hard? Am I just selfish? I can't stop crying! I keep thinking "this is your last meal"..."this is your last car ride"....I mean he barely even knows where he is right now. Anyway, I am just really sad and could use a prayer or two.
