CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
Repeat of last Friday

Last Friday, my youngest was taken into EPC. He got taken again last night. For added fun, he tried to assault an officer. They took him to jail for the night. Thank God my psychiatrist tripled my medication on Thursday, or I would be a basket case again. The officer said they will likely force him into inpatient rehab this time, FINALLY. We are going to Lincoln on Tuesday to empty his apartment.
I talked to him yesterday afternoon, & he said he was going to go to the meetings they scheduled for him. He was sober. It was de-ja-vu from last Friday, same exact scenario. I cant just let him go, he needs us right now, but I don't know if I can take many more of these incidents. I feel like a pathetic excuse for a mother. I already have an ES, now this. I did the best I could.

I meant to say he was sober the first time I talked with him, about 3 hours later, he was drunk. This time, he blew a .30.

Alcoholism is a terrible disease, and it is not your fault!!! Some people's brains are more wired to become addicted, and addiction is a terrible biological disease that is not anyone's fault. I know it is terrible to watch someone you love be destroyed by this terrible disease, but it is ultimately up to your son to hit his bottom, and make the decision to try to overcome his addiction. My cousin became clean and sober in her forties. Her mother, my aunt, became clean and sober in her 70's!!! So, there is always hope. The hardest, hardest part of this terrible disease is that only the person themselves can make the ultimate decision to change. And some don't ever. The hardest thing in the world, as a mother, is to be powerless to help your child. But that is actually your reality, and blaming yourself, beating yourself up won't really make it possible for you to have some power in the situation. I am so very sorry that your son is in this position, and I hope and pray that people will come into his life who can help him change. But sometimes we as mothers are not the people who can help our children change, it has to come from them, from other people, or from their own life experiences. It is horrible to be powerless, but that is the awful truth about the disease of alcoholism. Please take good care of yourself and honor yourself.

Gordos, He may be hitting bottom which is what we pray for with our EC (I know I do). That is when our children have the desire to change. I pray your son will stay in rehab. We made our son go at age 24. He was living with us and we did not give him a choice.

Praying he'll get the help he needs now, gordos. Hang in there. I'd hate to see your son's bad choices ruin his good mother's life. Someone online that I follow (a Christian) has a sort of "mantra" that she tells herself. I think it is "I am bigger, stronger, wise and kind." That helps her through the tough times. Maybe you could find a few words of Truth like these that describe you and just remember them over and over in faith. And I'm sure that you ARE also bigger, stronger, wise and kind! (((hugs)))

Try to plug in to an Al-Anon Group for yourself. Serenity Prayer, God grant me the serenity to accept what I cannot change, the courage to change what I can change and the wisdom to know the difference". You did not cause his drinking and you cannot cure it. Prayers and hugs..
