CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
- Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang ALL the law and the prophets.
- Matt 22:37
- A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. - John 13:34 -
- He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. - 1 John 4:8
- Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW. - Romans 13:10
- But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; - Matthew 5:44
When someone doesn't love and honor their parents, that is between that person and God. I am a big believer in getting out of God's way so that he can deal with the person who breaks his commandments in his own way and in his own time (i.e., our estranged children).
Many of the EC among us have entitlement issues. We need to be very careful that we do not to partake in the same error. We are entitled to nothing but hell, except for the grace by which we're saved in Jesus. So yes, our children SHOULD honor AND love us, their parents. But if they don't, they're breaking God's law. He's the one that gave the commandment, not us. We must obey it, too. To love them, even from a distance. :)
It's ironic to me that my parents abused me severely and yet I respected and honored them and tried to love them and yet my ED does not honor or respect me and I have never abused her.
I am thankful that Heavenly Father loves us all.
