CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
Question for the Canadian members: off topic

Most of you know my estrangement ended with my daughter the day she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who is now 5 months old. Of course things are not perfect BY ANY MEANS.
I went up to visit my grand daughter about two weeks ago and noticed that her eyes do not seem to be tracking together. From everything I read it appears to be Strabismus which is very treatable if caught early. My daughter nor her boyfriend seemed to notice this problem. I have been pushing her to take the baby to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. Because of the location (so close to the Canadian border) the closest Dr in NY is four hours away. There is a Doctor in Ottowa and my daughters bf is claiming that because the baby is his child she is automatically covered under his Canadian health insurance.
That is my question. The baby is an American citizen (she does not have dual citizenship). Would it be possible for the baby to be covered under his insurance since he is the birth father? I don't care who she sees but she needs to be seen and I don't want to waste time fooling around trying to get her into a Canadian doctor if she isn't eligible for his insurance.
He has been pushing my daughter to apply for dual citizenship. I hope she doesn't because I don't want him to have any more rights than he already does.
This man is trouble. He is 41 with two delinquent sons that can't read or write (he home schools them). I need him out of her life!!

I lived in Ontario for awhile, years afo under their health care. Our family were landed immigrants, so we were all covered. laws may have changed, but It is possible that the baby is covered. He. the bf, should contact Ontario Health Insurance, to find out for sure. I would think the way to know for sure is to contact OHiP

IMO and I'm not an expert if the birth father is on the birth certificate the child would likely be covered by Health Insurance. It would be just a phone call to see. Just phone a hospital and ask if you are Canadian and have a child who resides in the US would the child be covered. Best wishes.

Thanks for your replies. My daughter FB messaged me on Friday and told me that she made an appointment at one of the places I recommended!! It is 3.5 hours from her house and six hours from mine. I am leaving shortly to spend the night at a hotel there so I can go with her to the doctor. I am so happy she is going to one of the specialists I recommended. Maybe I am crazy but I see this as a little more progress.

DS4me..I am Canadian and live in Ontario. Yes..because the baby's father is Canadian..she has all the rights to the Health Care that is provided here in Canada. There is an amazing children's hospital in Ottawa..and also in Toronto. Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto is known worldwide as one of the world's best Pediatric/ Children's hospital...so she could also be seen by some of the best pediatric specialists in the world..be assured. It might be less expensive here in Canada..unless your daughter has some sort of health insurance...but yes..your granddaughter would be covered. Was she born in Canada or the US?? (Sorry..don't remember??) This might make a difference..I don't know..however, her biological father's Canadian status makes her an automatic recipient of the health care here.
